I had forgotten all about the Courier. Thumbs up for the reminder. It was actually fairly innovative.
If (unlike the Surface demo) the Courier had actually worked it could have been a bit of a game changer. Since it ended up being more vaporware from MS we'll never know what it could have done, what programs it might have run, etc., but it would have been interesting to see. Obviously Apple was well into launching the iPad at the same time but I wonder if Amazon or B&N would have gotten into the tablet business as well?
Gizmodo's wait and see attitude about why it might not work out was pretty on-target...

I like the first line in about the Courier in this engadget article from Sept. 2009...
