Religious Atrocity Vol 4: Gay in Uganda? Life in Prison or Death

The evangelical christian inspired law is set to take effect in December in which gays in Uganda may be sentenced to life in prison or execution.

Quote:

The law will broaden the criminalization of same-sex relationships by dividing homosexuality into two categories; aggravated homosexuality and the offense of homosexuality.

‘Aggravated homosexuality’ is defined as gay acts committed by parents or authority figures, HIV-positive people, pedophiles and repeat offenders. If convicted, they will face the death penalty.

The ‘offense of homosexuality’ includes same-sex sexual acts or being in a gay relationship, and will be prosecuted by life imprisonment.

Those crazy Africans, right?  If only they had a western influence to civilize them, they wouldn't pass such atrocious laws.  Oh...wait...

Celebrity evangelical Rick Warren is also involved. Last year [2008], the pastor told a conference of Ugandan Anglican Bishops that homosexuality was not a tolerable human right, and his doctoral thesis advisor organized anti-gay Ugandan legislators. For almost a decade, Warren has made it his mission to integrate the church and healthcare systems of neighboring Rwanda, whose president is a close ally. Though The Family and Warren have now publicly rebuked the bill, their activities clearly contributed to the atmosphere that made it possible.

While Ugandan parliamentarians say they will drop extreme parts of the bill such as the death penalty and life imprisonment, there is not much doubt that it will pass. When it does, it will set a dangerous precedent not only for gay rights in Africa, but also for the future of American evangelicalism abroad.

That was from 2009.  The death penalty and life imprisonment didn't pass back then when they made homosexuality illegal.  It took a little while, but it finally passed now.

Western evangelicals, the blood will be on your hands.

You created this mess.  You stirred this hatred.  You don't get to distance yourself from the results.

Anyone care to defend the western evangelical offensive against homosexuality leading to this barbaric law?  Are you not pleased?  They are cherry picking one part of the old testament really well.  Or are you embarrassed that they've outdone you?  Envious that you don't get to put homosexuals to death?
