ok, i have a folder in my trash that i cannot delete.
I am running 10.2.3 and the folder is whats left of me deleting an old backup from my fw disk.
when i try to delete it, i am told that i do not have sufficient permission to do so.
there are hidden files inside the folder that wont let me delete them.
the first is a folder labled ????????????HFS+ Private Data
inside that are the following files:
[code]
-rw-rw-rw- 2 thunderp wheel 802 Sep 2 2001 iNode139692944

have you tried moving 'em out of the trash, putting them somewhere safe, su to root then killing them?

assuming you know what you're doing, that will kill them, although i always get a little nervous about screwing around as root.

perhaps a better idea would be to boot off your 10.2 install cd and fix permissions via the disk utility.

actually, reverse the order there of my suggestions, cd first then root. root should always be the last choice.

its my machine. SUing to root and typing rm -rf * in the dir tells me that i (root) do not have permission to do that.

does anyone know what these files are in the first place tho?

did you try booting off a 10.2 cd and fixing the permissions on your machine? that sounds like the most likely culprit.

See if you can find a version of Gregs' Browser for OS9. It allows you to set the option of seeing invisible files, as well as deleting invisible files. It also lets you make files visible using the labels menu (within the program)

You should be able to start it in OSX and do what you need to do with the file.

Just an FYI, though... there are some files which cannot be turned invisible...
