Unlocking an iPhone 5, what are my options?

So I just bought an iPhone 5 from Sprint for a family member overseas, I need to have it unlocked before I send it to him.  What are my options if any?  Thanks for any help!

Already unlocked.

 

Fortunate, as if you'd bought an AT&T model, you'd have to wait two years.

 

Note these bands for compatibility.

What do you recommend generally, is it safe to take an unlocked phone???

Well, sure. Why wouldn't it be?

 

The only recommendation that can be made is knowing what bands your telecom operates on and getting the right phone for those bands.
