Question about Apple TV and Bluetooth

Before the Apple TV update, what did Apple TV use the Bluetooth for?

Before the update there wasn't even the menu option to pair Bluetooth with anything. Did the Bluetooth chip in the Apple TV not do anything?

Nothing, to my recollection. It took a while to even find the chip in the 2nd-gen.
