Again, I'd disagree and say not semantics. The reality is that the collapse has already happened. The only way the pain is being pushed out is endless borrowing to avoid dealing with the collapse. I'd argue the real economy stopped in the early 90's. Since then it has been bubble after bubble with the final bubble being government bonds resulting in massive currency devaluation and finally default in various forms. The fed has been printing and buying our own debt for years now. We are already end stage.

Ms. Feinstein is hardly a rabid partisan, but if her party membership causes you to doubt her, consider the judgment of John B. Bellinger III, who served as a senior national security lawyer in the Bush administration from 2001 through 2009.In a post on the Lawfare blog Sunday, Mr. Bellinger warned that shutdown advocates “should be gravely concerned about the risks they are taking with the security of the United States.”

“Do Tea Party Republicans want the leaders of our intelligence and security agencies focused on protecting the nation, or managing the shutdown of their agencies?” he asked. “[I]f there were another attack against the United States or its facilities around the world (such as an Embassy), Tea Party Republicans and the American people would not be able to blame the Executive branch — and call for Benghazi-like investigations — for failing to keep the country safe. Members of Congress who had forced a government shutdown would themselves be blamed.”"

Point blank, essentual personnel are not sent home. If the agency has declared them non-essentual, then that isn't the fault of Congress. Trying to scare people for political gain is shameless and embarassing. It shows the argument itself has no merit.

I would love to see a reporter ask the current crop of GOPerists to compare the health plan they put out years ago to beat out the dem plan... your know, the same plan that was made into RomneyCare... that was made into the ACA... that they are now totally against.

Any charts showing this on the net?

Could be interesting...

Also, I saw somewhere that the House Goppers were trying to say that they spoke for the people, but that in the last election, more people actually voted for Dems, but because of gerrymandering the Gop got the seats...

Mr Orange showed the GOP heart when he walked away from a reporter asking about back-pay for government workers.  Just simply walked away.  Iceman.

I saw somewhere that House Dumbocrats were trying to say they spoke for the people but rumor 1, 2, 3 Obama hates American and wasn't born here anyway.

You'd dismiss that poster. Don't be that poster.

How many thousands of children would have visited national parks during the shutdown period, but now cannot, because of obstinance by the GOP?

It isn't because of the GOP. It is because of President Obama. These are open air memorials and monuments that are intentionally and in ridiculous fashion having access to them blocked.

Obama stopped the White House tours because he was upset with some puny cuts. This is much worse. They are blocking roads and sidewalks off so that even if something is public, open and requires no personnel, they are making it impossible to see or use. It's akin to throwing a sheet over the White House so that people can't look at it.

I read that study. It had terrible methodology. "Right answers" were basically Democratic talking points. DS is pretty well done as a comedy show. It is poorly done as a news show. However most news shows are so poorly done today that one that spends half the time mocking the news still often manages to convey as much information as the others that spend large chunks of time on "analysis." Eitherway good news sources would be better.

Boehner... care about the country?  Hasn't shown it yet.  Perhaps he could cry a bit and put on a nice show for everyone.

He is in the party that produces gems like the guy who claimed he could not be disrespected.

Guilt by association? What does that make anyone in the same party as Reid who would deny meds to a kid dying of cancer to score political points?

Gee, that's really surprising. I mean who would have thought they could write opinion pieces in Japan as well.

I would have thought that the foreign community and Americans would have been much more aghast and embarassed by the $6 trillion in borrowing Obama did in his first term and the complete lack of economic growth along with endemic unemployment.

It amounts to, someone somewhere with no official office or capacity within the government produced a document. Several months later some things in that document happened!!!

The Obama admin is shutting down stuff all over the place for tourists, veterans, and sick kids with cancer, but if you're a member of an approved leftist group, you can apparently get whatever you want.

This is always the modus operandi of the Left, whether they're based in Moscow or Washington.

First you doubled you link rather than having the two links you wanted.

How does Larry Klayman saying that Obama is bowing down to Islam or declaring he is Muslim somehow prove animus or racism for the entire Tea Party? It is a terrible logical fallacy and horrible reasoning to draw conclusions about a group from one person. To claim you are fighting stereotyping by engaging in it is just pure stupidity.

Also perhaps try another news source. I seem to recall demands for and continued demands for the Senate to change the rules regarding filibusters. Perhaps I could even find a post or two of yours that made that demand. Also let us note forget that the Supreme Court slapped down Obama recess appointments as unconstitutional when he declared the Senate not in session even though it was and did as he desired.

Stones, glass houses, that bit. Figure it out and perhaps you'll see why the false outrage you and others attempted to use holds no sway anymore.

I'm sure they will find someone else to readily do half a trillion dollars a year of trade. What exactly is China supposed to propose? Perhaps they could start by letting the yuan float freely rather than at the "relaxed" peg they keep it at right now.

Face it trumpy. The Teapublicans are doomed in the next election ( only a year away remember ). The voting public won't forget this one and we're not done yet! Let's hope this doesn't get worse but what happens from here on out the blame will land squarly in the Teapublicans lap. Their point man in Virginia, running for governor in just a couple of weeks, started dropping in the polls, and is now outside the margin of error and thus very behind in the race.  He avoided Cruz like the plague last week.

Cruz may have cost the GOP- I mean, TeaParty - a governorship.  Didn't Cruz say though that the polls were rigged and that the GOP's image had not been tarnished?

That the guy got that far in Virginia shows the decline of the state of several of our Founding Fathers whom the GOP revere so much.

There is a strong correlation between media centers and Democratic performance. There are also several studies that show that the media creates a significant drag on Republican election performance often in the range of 2-3 points.

Essentially, Democrats will have to persuade swing voters that having Republicans in charge of one chamber in one branch of government is more dangerous than yielding unilateral control of the government to the Democrats — at a time when President Obama is fairly unpopular, and when the signature initiative of the last Democratic Congress has been rolled out badly. Moreover, the voters that Democrats have to persuade about this are somewhat right of center, since the median congressional district is somewhat Republican-leaning and since the voters who reliably turn out at midterm elections are older, whiter, and otherwise more conservative than those who vote in general elections. It's not an impossible task for Democrats, but the terrain is all uphill.

I'm struck by how Berger doesn't actually reply to anything that is posted to him. He wants us all to be outraged yet can't even muster the energy to reply to valid concerns about his claims.

He wants us to care when he can't bother to hit the reply button.

The Heritage Foundation seems to have told the Gophers to vote no.

Who elected the Heritage Foundation?  Is it a member of Congress?

Batty Pat Robertson, yep, that guy, tells GOP to throw in the towel.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/16/pat-robertson-republicans-shutdown_n_4108120.html

The GOP shouldn't be "tarred" with causing a default.

Too late.  They own this fiasco, especially the whacky ones.  The others because they let it happen.

And the world knows it.

Completely a GOP creation- with the help of the "liberal" media- , according to this guy at an alternative paper:

Cruz scoffs at NBC/WSJ poll: 'That's not reflective of where this country is'

Boy! Is he in for a shock!;)

Quote:

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday sought to cast doubt on the results of a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal that reflected widespread public blame toward the GOP for the government shutdown and Cruz's own popularity suffering.

Pretending it's not there or not coming back to haunt you won't help.

I can't believe how certain factions of the GOP have an absolute talent for shooting themselves in the foot. If only it didn't affect the rest of us.;)

Yeah he's in total denial. Just like the rest of the Teapublicans. The next election ( coming up in just one year ) will be very interesting.

The shutdown cost the US $24 BILLION, and lowered GDP by 0.6%.

This is likely part of the the grand GOP scheme and part of why they let Cruz spout his filth on international TV for two weeks.  They will try to blame Obama for poor numbers, just like they try each month with the jobs report that is being hurt by the sequestration cuts that sadly Obama gave them in trying to, well, negotiate.

Can we start a petition to have Cruz, the Tea Party and the GOP repay the nation?

Without the stimulus you'd be standing in a bread line. If the Teapublicans have their way you still might be.;)  But of course they won't and you will very likely be seeing a downturn in their influence in the near future.

Libertarian is not the same as liberal.

The liberals are the antithesis of freedom right now with their centralized and top down view of the world. You will live right because Barack Obama and his spy agencies know what you are doing and will correct your stupid mistakes whether you want them to or not.

So the U.S. Government was shut down, in large part because Obama refused to negotiate a delay of ObamaCare's Individual Mandate.

And now they start to issue delays in the law anyway, without getting anything in return for it?

What a laugh! Yes let's just ignore the Teapublicans holding the voters hostage just to get their way ( which wasn't even what the majority of voters want ). What a laugh.

The Teapublicans days are numbered.;)

And really trumpy are you trying to sell us on the idea that this spy stuff wasn't going on during the Bush years?

No. It was shut down because the Teapublicans are a selfish lot who will learn a hard lesson in the next election.;)
