Oh, SHUT UP about your "natural progression" BS.

What's both ridiculous and shameless is idiot trolls coming onto Apple websites.

Go check out the comments on various places for the huge Star Wars RPG (one of the best RPG's of all time) that just got released for the iPad, and check out how many moronic Fandroids ask when it's coming out for Android? lol.gif

Huh, my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7" was a great tablet, fast, phone capabilities, SD card, very portable, ect. Not sure what cheap Android tablet you've owned but I've really liked the ones I've purchased, Asus Transformer, Transformer Prime, Xoom, Xoom II and Samsung 7.7"

If the quality of your future posts is similar to what we've seen so far, than I'm sure nobody is going to "enjoy" your posts. It's not your opinion, it's what it's based on, including extremely shitty arguments that are intellectually dishonest, and rolling out all the tired memes like "rectangle with rounded corners", "only form factor that makes sense today", etc, not to mention lying.

"The strange thing is that Apple tries to patent something that was created by someone else before. This is not only ridiculous but also shameless."

Wait, so "creating" means something that was seen on startrek, or a product mockup that never actually came to existence? "Creating" is actually doing the hard work of overcoming all the engineering complexities of developing and building a product that was only was ever imagined, and getting such a product into the hands of consumers. Your same argument could be applied to say its ridiculous that Apple patent a time machine, or a warp drive, if it actually built these, as these have already existed in scifi movies. It's clear the only reason you registered here is to troll (since you've been reading this site for a long time, but never once bothered to register to say anything positive about Apple or engage in real discussion), and it's sad that you plan to continue doing just that.

You're right if the topic was utility patents.  He seems instead to be talking about the look.

Patenting the mechanics of a time machine, is quite different from trying to patent the look of a time machine that has already been visualized in science fiction.  If Apple created a time machine that looked like the Delorean in Back To The Future, then yes, the movie car would be prior art if trying to enforce a design patent.

Likewise for this thread, Apple's lawsuit was about the tablet design, not its guts.  Heck, as I've pointed out, it was not even about the iPad design itself, but over a generic rounded rectangular slab shape with a flat front and slim bezel.

Apple's lawyers were just taking a long shot.  If they failed, nothing changes.  If they won, a lot would.

Could you tell the difference ten feet away?

Does any consumer compare any electronic item from ten feet away?

In  all fairness they probably could afford an iPad but for whatever reason they choose not to and therefore would not need or ask for any pity or sympathy from anyone.

That's so far from the point it circles back around to keep facing away from it.

Under what circumstance would someone who can afford an iPad not get one?

There's a reason Big Lots still sells a $79 Android tablet running 1.6: People are complete idiots. When they realize how absolutely worthless said tablet is, one of two things happens. Either they realize how stupid they were and save up for an iPad or they assume that all "iPads" are like that and refuse to educate themselves on the truth.

Ok hmm let me see.

It boils down to things like features that are not on an iPad that some folk cant live with out.

  • Bluetooth that shares photos, videos, music, ringtones and any other file with another device.
  • memory card slot.
  • a screen size other than 9.7 or 7.9
  • an HDMI port
  • customisability
  • they already have an android device and rather have a tablet that runs the same cos they like it.
  • They liked the look of say the new Xperia Z Tablet more than an iPad

That list isnt complete, theres probably other reasons, some sensible some not.

Forgive me, i fail to see why the reasons why genuine people by a non Apple tablet, makes them insensible, just because the product isnt made by Apple.

No, no, it's fine; I just don't understand that sentence.

There's certainly a portion of the market that refuses to buy something because it's made by Apple. They're so small as to be insignificant. There's also a portion that would want one or more of those features, but even they are in still in the 4-digit numbers…

Don't be sad, I'm sorry. I too own a Android tablet for some of the very reasons you listed. I also own an iPad though, the apps selection alone is enough to convert the toughest of critics. I'm a real music lover and the selection of music creation apps and their usefulness is just mind boggling. However, I'm also a very tech savy person who loves to have complete control over their OS environment. Android albeit not perfect gives me great enjoyment. I have a working LAMP server, Python and Perl installed on the command line, I have a file-manager that can access all of my cloud services and servers, I can mess around with custom roms or even install a completely new OS like Ubuntu Touch. I will never say I like or is better than the other because they're so different in my opinion. This is an Apple forum and like it or not 9 times out of 10 you will be criticized for defending anything Android related. As a girl who swings both ways in more areas than one .... wait I'm getting off topic here. All is good, sorry for the silly comment.

On a side note, I wouldn't have posted my comment if you would have just taken a second and had proofread what you posted. Just food for thought.

Sometimes I do just like to argue, but the HDMI port would serve an important purpose for some people. I don't think people buying those are hooking them up to televisions or displays so much. My guess is projectors. Projectors stayed with VGA for quite a few years, which was why it remained on some Windows notebooks long after the majority of displays had moved on. Those went from VGA to HDMI, so it's a completely logical requirement for some people. It's either you have it, or you can't use a tablet.

VGA? Don't talk to me about VGA… 1mad.gifirked.gif

TWENTY FOURTEEN. It's still being supported until TWENTY FOURTEEN. It'll be the END OF NEXT YEAR before motherboard manufacturers stop putting on their boards. That's absolutely ludicrous. It should have been dropped in 1999.

I think my laptop has a VGA port. I don't use it. I use the HDMI port instead.

You missed or ignored my point entirely. I said that HDMI is valuable for things such as projectors. It can be used to drive a presentation. Dispayport is a much better standard, but HDMI won in some areas. Displayport 1.2 has included specs for daisy chaining displays and inclusion of usb hubs with a display since early 2010. Regarding the subject of tablets though, you can either drive these devices or you can't. HDMI is a perfectly valid feature for the people who need it. Otherwise they have to bring a notebook rather than just their tablet.
