Apple's personal assistant Siri will get a major overhaul in iOS 7, including a new voice, new appearance, and numerous new features.

With Siri in iOS 7, the default voice has been changed to be less robotic-sounding. Users will also have the option for a male voice, and in multiple languages.

Siri also gains the ability to control more features on the iPhone. Sample functions include playing voicemails, adjusting brightness, and reading content from Twitter or Wikipedia.

Users will also be able to obtain Web search results acquired from Bing, and photos can even be searched by voice.

Apple is also expanding Siri Eyes Free support, giving users the ability to display content on an external screen in their vehicle, including Maps. A list of major car manufacturers was shown that have plans to support the new feature in iOS 7. They are:
  • Honda
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • Nissan
  • Ferrari
  • Chevy
  • Infiniti
  • Kia
  • Hyundai
  • Volvo
  • Acura
  • Opel
  • Jaguar

Glad to see Apple are improving Siri - it needed it, I hope they're successful.

I hope the car companies keep up faster than has been their history!

I'm planning on getting a 7th generation Corvette later this year, or next year.

Hopefully this is one of the Chevrolets slated for Apple/Siri support.

Eddie needs to work on his presentation skills and stop pausing to wait for applause at the end of each of his statements with a big grin on his face.

However, he did score points with me for color co-ordinating his shirt to match the OS X Mavericks theme.

Apple managed the astonishing feat of getting the equivalent of a personal computer into the hands of everybody from eight to eighty year olds, and did so while providing absolutely no instructions...

Why is BMW not on in the picture?

Well, time to go with Mercedes.

Good thing I can change the voice to a male.  I don't like the idea of a woman controlling my experience (as I hide from my GF when she read this).

Its surprising that they didn't mention Audi or Land Rover but they did mention Jaguar which owns land rover. I hope they add support for the new Range Rover sport i really would like to have this feature in a new vehicle.

Apple Maps, are you serious?

Tried it today... I guess that was for the last time.
Google Maps on my iPhone just blew that Apple application to pieces... There is not a single aspect in which Apple Maps is better that Google Maps

On iOS6, set it to English (UK); you'll get the male, set it to English (US), you'll get the female voice.

Apple maps is all I use. Only time it steered me wrong was the first month it was out. Since then, flawless. Just got back to the States from Cook Islands and New Zealand and it guided our rental car on the most remote roads. I don't use public transit so don't miss that.

Bagging on Maps has just become another meme, like antenna gate.

Speed.  Google Maps on iOS is dog slow and the touch interface is unstable as all get out. It has good data (though it has errors just like iOS) and has poor display of traffic flow data. Both are competent map systems and both are far from perfect.

That is odd, given that BWM just announced that they would support Siri across their entire line in 2014.

This article is about Siri not Apple Maps. Don't like Apple maps, Siri or anything else fine, just don't use it and stfu. Just because you have a very general opinion doesn't mean that you are right or that anyone wants to see or hear it.

You forgot the quote box. It seems you've posted a troll's post from a very long time ago.

Or maybe you're actually dumb enough to think anyone would believe this tripe.

1) It's not a general opinion but a specific opinion.

2) I just said I won't use Apple Maps anymore: it sucks

3) My opinion is just as valid as anybody else's

4) Maps was included in the article as an addition to Siri (which I like)

5) If you don't want to see my opinion, don't read it

Hi Tallest,

what are the odds?

what are the odds that this one guy is actually smarter than all the so-called dumb guys who don't follow his gist, idea or opinion of the self-declared smart guy.

Zéro, none, zilch, niente

Bing? Sticking it to Google. See Creepy Eric, don't mess with Apple.

About something that has zero to do with what we're discussing.

2) I just said I won't use Apple Maps anymore: it sucks

Good for you; you're a liar, objectively, and we don't care.

3) My opinion is just as valid as anybody else's

"Hey, guys, I can lie all I want!" Nope.

The word "Maps" appears once. Worm(ing your way out of your trolling), meet bird.

5) If you don't want to see my opinion, don't read it

No, don't post it where it doesn't belong. It's pretty easy for a human to comprehend.

He is trolling. Apple Maps is demonstrably better in many ways than Google Maps.

In fact, Google virtually admitted as much considering the current Google Maps Beta is nearly indistinguishable from Apple Maps.

My devices must have been designed by Henry Ford. You could have a Model T in any color, as long as it was black, and I can have a synthesized voice in either gender, as long as it's female. It seems a tad sexist, like draping new cars at the auto show with Playboy bunnies.

FInally, Siri isn't channeling Henry Ford and Hugh Hefner any more.

The option for a male voice is actually an accessibility feature, because hearing loss begins with high frequencies and moves down.

I have nothing against females. In fact, I even have a friend who is related to someone who knows a female, but I really prefer a male voice, which for me is more audible.

I like Apple Maps much, much better, but I have to use Google Maps while driving. I prop up my iPad on the passenger seat so I can glance at the map from time to time, to see where I am and to see traffic conditions ahead. Google Maps has more contrast and more saturated colors. It only takes a quick glance to see what I need to see, then my eyes are back on the road. Apple Maps' traffic conditions are detectable, but Google's are easily visible. I need to see traffic conditions ahead, because it's often necessary to improvise an alternate route. Both of these things are very important since I live an area with the second-worst traffic in the country.

If Apple increased the contrast, used more saturated contrast, and made the traffic conditions easier to see, all easy cosmetic changes, I'd never use Google Maps again.

Is it? I haven't clicked on that invitation button. I'll look for an article on it. Perhaps Gatorguy or KDarling can post a review...
