Will Apple leapfrog OLED displays and go straight to QLED?

Apparently these display devices use 75% less power than OLED.

Anyone any thoughts on this?

Do you mean QLED as in quantum dot? If so, absolutely they will. You’re dead on with that. If Apple had ever planned to use OLED, they would have started years ago. QD displays are crazy efficient compared to OLED.

Yes Quantum dot - could we see an iPad with 24 hour battery just and just 5mm thick within 2 years?

I guess quantum dot displays will provide the next quantum leap in performance. lol

Any improvement to battery life at this point I figure will be unrelated to just the display.

2 years? Nah. I haven’t read anything to think they’ll be mass produceable that soon. And 5mm I assume is just exaggeration; we’re uncomfortable holding things that are too thin. There are some breakthroughs in battery tech in preliminary testing right now. By the end of the decade we could very well have batteries that charge in minutes and last for hours.

Amazon's latest tablet, the HDX7. uses a quantum dot display, so they're already being produced in quantity. Apparently pretty impressive display too as it's rated king of the hill among all tablet displays at the moment.

Thanks for that - fascinating how the technology has changed in my life time.  I understand that 1 KG of Quantum Dots is enough to make 50,000 TVs without the use of rare or heavy metals
