Macintosh's Palm OS5? (ATAT)

As the Apple Turns has an interesting update...

First they note how AQUA-rific Dells new PDA looks.

Then followed up with an interesting slip or mistake by either an AP news reporter (copy editor?) or a Dell exec. Links below.

"A company spokesman said Dell decided against Macintosh's Palm OS5 technology because Microsoft's Pocket PC is a better fit for Dell's move toward standardization."

Which begs the question, "Who is Macintosh?" because Apple is the company. (Macintosh is to Windows as Apple is to Microsoft). So this clearly indicates to me a writer with low experience.

As for the Aqua look, I think this is more of a testament of Aqua's appeal rather than a hint of things to come.

I love it how Dell always talked about their sacred jihad towards 'standardization'. If Dell was a country, we would have bombed their asses long ago.

Up until recently, the IT mindset was that any software product not written by Microsoft is non-standard (no seriously). This is of course is a direct carryover from Microsoft's mindset.

For PDA's, this is really a disconnect. What advantage is there for your PDA to be running the same (or similar) OS as your deskop? None, but Dell probably got loads of graft and freebies from Microsoft for thinking "correctly."

And that microsoft mindset stems from the IBM mindset that some IT people still have. Like the old saying goes, nobody ever got fired for buying IBM.
