'Allo.

Looks like I can get this camera for pretty cheap, but it's (on paper, at least) only PC-compatible. I would think it'd work, as it *should* be simply a USB storage device, but you never know....

Anyone have any ideas? Google Groups only turned up one post, not in English, so I may be forced to try it out and see....

Two reasons to run away:

No removable media, only 16MB internal. I'd imagin it's not mass storage compliant, since it doesn't rely on removable media.
Highest resolution is interpolated from 640x480. To get decent 4x6 photos, you need at least 2 megapixels. Interpolation is as big of a crock as digital zoom.

Actually, I was just looking at this as a gift...

...for someone whose current camera is a late 70's 35mm with no zoom, flash, nada. Little folding pocket thing that takes lousy pictures.

He'd be *thrilled* with this.

The Logitech uses the same guts as the Axia eyePlate, those from SMaL. (Sorry, do a google on them - don't have the URLs handy.)

And, SMaL and Axia *DO* have MacOS X drivers.

Oh heck, just go read <a href="http://www.powerpage.org/story.lasso?newsID=10283" target="_blank">here</a>

So, if anyone has the SMaL or Axia cameras, I'd love an email with the drivers.

Thanks. I actually just realized that the 1.3MP is interpolated. Ugh. And I whole-heartedly agree with you on the digital zoom. "Ooh, look, it crops the image to 'make' more zoom!" What BS.

Yeah, after looking some more, it seems SMaL wrote great drivers for Mac OS X, and Logitech at the last minute decided it wasn't going to support the Mac.

As much as I like Logi, their "sometimes yes, sometimes no" strategies really upset me. Great support for mice and keyboards, nothing but OS 9 on webcams, and some of their coolest things (i.e. Pocket Digital) are Windows only.

Apparently they took a lot of returns from people who pre-ordered them, since Logi said it was OS X compatible at that time. Even a few online resellers still have it listed as "OS 9.1 or OS X 10.1 or up."
