Project "Glove" and "Lucida" in July - Page 10

Would you care to explain retail boxes of MacOS X then? You certainly don't have to buy the one that specifically works on your model of computer... it's already a universal install.

That is not what I meant. Lets say you buy a new iMac, and you want to use the install CD that came with that iMac to install Mac OS X on lets say an older machine that you own. It will not work. The install CD that comes with the iMac will not work on PowerMac G4 towers, or iBooks, etc etc

Then you can pose naked on the lawns of 1 Infinite Loop with a rack full of XServes to protect your dignity. Is that better? Just don't think about all the people behind you.

Not that I think there's a chance in Hell that you'll have to do even that...

Yes it will. Any OS X CD released by Apple supports any Mac that is deemed OS X compatible, however those same CDs are not forwards-compatible with unreleased machines.

yes, you are right, to a point... the RESTORE CD's only work with the model they shipped with, but they have started including a full os x install cd and os 9 install cd with each shipping computer, and those ARE universal installs, usable on any computer.

I guess a lot of things have changed since I bought my last G4. Even the Install CD for my G4 would not install on another machine...

yes it will. the only time you might incurr problems is installing older product os's on newer machines as the roms are different. All newer "machine" specific disks will install on any machine. If you look, you will see that a powermac g4 disk contains trackpad software for a powerbook or ibook.

Yeah, that's what i want to know.. or rather, see. The real rendering (or as real as an artist's rendering can be) of Lucida, posted by the real allenmcjones, not some Spymac-looking fake piece of crap prank.

yeah, surprised me too... my dual g4 came with 5 (!!!) restore CD's, a full mac os 9 install, and a full mac os x install (plus a couple of free cd-r's... i would've rather had another cool piece of shareware instead, but as it was, it was pretty nice).

anyway, like i said, what, three pages ago?, i am betting that the recent service licensing plan is in preparation for "glove." otherwise, someone in a large corporation gets a disk image of mac os x server (or mac os x client), tries to install it on 50 macs in the company, blows something the hard way, and then calls apple for service/troubleshooting. and apple's supposed to do that for free? no way. apple wants mega-bucks for the serious tech support from the corporations who have it and want to run os x on lots of hardware.

not sure what they'll do for the one-off users though. i guess, according to the original rumor post, that you will have to have your harware serial number handy when you call for help (that may be partially why they started putting the serial number for the emacs behind the cd door for easy accessibility - plus, apple system profiler now retrieves a serial number, too, of your hardware... but that doesn't do you much good if your problem happens to be that your system won't boot up).

Where is he? I don't know. What is he? Full of it. July 1st Apple will be announcing a new pricing structure that is considerably more expensive than the existing ELVA and TAP programs.

I was so wishing this story was true.

Well my server has been taken down due to complete abuse. I guess that is what I get for being trusting. Someone here, or someone who read this thread, used my machine for serving personal files and pirated video and possibly porn, it is all deleted as is the account. Sad. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

I had a great stash of porn laying around here somewhere, and a streaming version of the brett michaels home video.....anyone seen it?

Allen (that wasn't his real name) has been put to death by Apple lawyers. At least some of his info was BS, and was immediately picked up by the Apple KGB: "What idiot did we tell we'd give away the farm too?" "Phil Schiller's brother in law?!?! Oh well, dispatch a team to bring him in......and keep it quiet"

I think that its obvious the the photo of the icam is a fake. Just look at the photo.

1. the lense reflection looks weird
2. look at how the camera is being gripped it looks kind of odd to me
3. why on earth would a camera be designed like that? It's completely stupid. There is no place for an lcd and there isn't even room for a dv tape, hd, or a battery in that thing.

If it is legit my guess is that its just a prototype mock up.

Besides all of that, from what i've seen lately sj doesn't really care for round stuff lately. The cube, xserve, and the rumors of the new powermac looking like 2 cubes stacked on top of eachother.

Sorry to tweak like this...but enough's enough.

Sight = vision, as in "the ship is within sight of the land"

Site = land, property, place, as in "this land will be the site of the new shopping mall".

Cite = to use as an example, as in "the judge cited the case of dumbass vs. mcdumbass in arriving at his decision to hang everyone involved".

Sorry. I just had enough and blew a gasket. I know that this little rant will actually help SOMEbody, even if it's totally off-topic.

On-topic, I'd love to see Apple leverage QuickTime with a hardware branch. I'll believe it when I see it.

Very well said.

It's another way of saying that poorly written posts detract from the credibility of the writer. If you write unprofessionally, I have less reason to believe that you know anything about what you are writing. If you can't take time to do it right, don't waste my time doing it wrong.

Well in the spirit of this thread, you would have to say;

If you can't take the time to do it correctly, don't waste my time by doing it incorrectly.

You were missing the point, Noah. Did you ever think maybe, just maybe, the porn was shot with Lucida. Give it another look-see and let us know about the quality.

Any chance an Apple branded camera would connect to a cell phone so it could upload pictures back to a computer? Wasn't the ability to dial in to a computer on an AirPort network just added in a recent software update?

Just musing. I was at a party this weekend and someone ran out of space on their camera and my first thought was that they should be able to call their computer and dump some photos.
