Just Ordered New iBook 12"

600MHZ
Combo Drive
256MB
20GB
AirPort
12"

...for my wife. We just got AirPort over Xmas so that will be cool! (we have a Pismo 500 now too). We didn't get the 14" because frankly she just didn't need it....with all that stuff and tax it was like $1700 anyway.

In lieu of possibly dropping $4k on a desktop after they update it, we bought this. But never fear, I have a feeling that 2002 will not expire without a desktop purchase too.

mmmmm.....ibook.

jeez, people still pay tax on computer purchases? lol.

I never pay tax when I buy something for my computer or a computer. it just makes it so much more expensive

What's the deal with tax in the States anyway? Does it vary from state to state? We Brits have to fork out 17.5% in tax

Congrats on your purchase! I get mine from work soon... same spec but with 640 RAM (professional design use) and with a DVD-ROM drive instead of the Combo Drive. The 14.1" looks huge in the pics... doesn't appeal to me much.

384 MBs RAM, Combo drive so there. And it's on its way at the moment. I hate VAT on computers.

I just bought one. I'm on it right now, at home I use it with a 17 inch monitor, and my old iMac keyboard and intellipoint mousemand with all the ports and av out i like it more than my old DV SE, however, the hard drive crashed and wiped out all my data. Apple said it was software problem. Beware of running CU-seeme on it.
I've got it going again after a reformat and put OSX on it. I bought a couple books on OSX, so, I'm really serious this time.

As Eman said..it varies....6% in Pennsylvania. I paid tax because I wanted it from the Apple store BTO, with a small education discount.

My wife likes here iBook. The small size is nice IMO. The larger one is an extra pound in weight. She's never said the screen was too small.

You guys should order from PowerMax or Small Dog. Both have almost the exact prices as Apple, both do BTO and both charge No tax.
Why order anywhere else?

If you want to buy a Mac from small dog you have have bought from them before. It's part of the deal they signed with Apple.

Why did they make a deal like that?

Aiight listen, if you buy from PowerMax or Small Dog you have to first order via their 800/888 number - only the first time. After that you can order online anytime you like.

They are both Apple Authorized Resellers and this is just a way to protect both you and them.

Don't pay tax, it's too easy not too. Enjoy and take advantage of not having to pay internet sales tax, in the future we will all have to pay internet sales tax.

macmall, maczone, macwarehouse, j and r, there are lots of ways to avoid the sinister sales tax.

My signature irritates people. However, my cat can still jump a watermelon, and the Apollo is the next chip coming to the Powermac line. Although, at this point, I'd believe that Cyrix is the next...

True, but MacMall and MacWarehouse charge California residents sales tax because they ship from there.

You just have to know the rules, but PowerMax has never let me down0
