Google updates Gmail for iOS with enhanced Google Drive integration

Heavy users of Google's web services suite will be pleased with the latest update to the company's Gmail app for iOS, which adds two new features that more tightly couple Gmail with Google Drive.

Users can now save attachments from messages directly to Google Drive, rather than being forced to download them to their device. The same functionality also works in reverse, allowing Drive files to be inserted into new messages.

In addition, the update adds account management options to help de-clutter the user interface. Users can choose which of their Gmail accounts to show without removing accounts used by other Google apps on the same device.

Finally, users can now change their Gmail profile picture in the app's settings pane.

Gmail version 3.14159 (pi) is available now as a free, 9.3-megabyte download from the App Store.

I wish Gmail would update the app so there would be an option not to have mail previews for lock screen notifications. I want to know I have new mail without any other info. This is a privacy issue with what people can see on my locked phone. Does someone picking up my phone need to see that my Amazon order shipped? Or the first words of what my doctor is emailing me? The ability to limit what is shown seems like a very basic option to offer.

In fact I'm surprised Apple doesn't include this option in the OS Notification prefs for each app.

Oh and Google, let users pick a custom sound for new mail.

Just what everyone wants: More tethering to Google. NOT!

Maybe one day they'll fix their terrible push mail. Using Gmail with the iOS Mail app is horrible.
Too many Apple products to list...Long on AAPL, so take what I say with a bucket of salt.

This is actually a very convenient feature if you're dealing with large attachments, and it makes it a lot more practical to attach files to an email from your phone.

You could add your Gmail account to the stock mail app and use that for a week, configuring the notifications to your hearts' content, see if that works out.

You mean that there now isn't any push email from Google unless you use their app? Can't you install their Gmail client so it notifies you instantly but add that account to the iOS mail app and read them there instead of the Gmail app?
I’d rather have a better product than a better price.
