Yes or No? Should post counts be attached to each post?

One vote per member, please...

I'd say no but it obviosly means a lot to some people judging on the reaction to your "social experiment"

Yay from me!

Yes. But only because I like to see what members don't have lives.

Not viewable, so others can't tell I don't have a life.
Can they be optional? if they can then I'm all for that being an option... if not then I'd have to keep them... UNLESS the member rating feature thing could be beefed up... I just hope this gets sorted out before my 1000th post (which sadly wont go into SAR)

Yes. I saw no problem with them. It's interesting to see who spends WAY too much time here.

Also, since SAR is gone, post counts will be more publicly accurate.

even though they're back, i'll go ahead and say no, just on principle.

there are some people way too hung up about post counts. Not to mention the fact that the numbers you see over there are, for some, incredibly skewed, because some people don't have anything better to do with their lives than to boost their post counts in Silicon Alley (thank god that's gone).

post counts are stupid, but even more so considering that everyone here knows that some of the highest ones are bogus.

I would say there a less than 5 members who have shown that they post just to increase their post count. the overwhelming majority does not.

I think they should be shown. There is no reason not to, they can be helpful, it looks better, and i think its a fun measurement
post #16 of 41
Yes. Though some people seem to measure their ego by their post count. There still should be one visible.

Yes. I'm used to them, and I kinda like to see who's new, and who doesn;t have a life.

I'd like to see them go. So I'd vote for an emphatic NO to having posts viewable.

Ill say yes, but no preference really, nice to see who the sad gits are!
The one thing i like about post counts is that if I don't recognize a name (There are like 3000 of them it happens) I can see if someone flaming the crap out me deserves to be heard, or not.

It does not matter one bit to me if mine is shown or not though. I've had mine zapped 2, 3 times. I never cared after the first time realy.

here's one, bring back silicon alley, but find a way for posts in that forum not to register to total post count.

optional sounds nice
otherwise let's just keep them, most other forums do, it's part of this little cult of internet community, it just feels geekier that way.

Yes. That way I know if it's a newbie so I can go gently on them for making a stupid comment or suggestion. If it's dumb and they've been here a while, the gloves come off.

Of course they should stay.
