Should users be allowed to have image signatures?

If yes, note that such signatures would need to be less than 140x40 pixels in size and non-animated.

Yes Yes Yes!

This is coming from a DSL user however. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

No - I prefer a simpler, cleaner interface.

only if FERRO's icons are the max size... although ferro wouldn't even use his icons in the signerature area anyways b/c he likes to switch them up depending on the subject of his post... now that I think about it, if people want to do this they can add it to their post manually like Anders and Ferro do...

No. It makes things look too busy, and I'd appreciate a bandwidth break on my 56k modem.

I'm on a cable and I still don't like them, so no thank you.
Yes. But can´t you set a limit on the size of the file in kb instead of pixels and set it really low so we don´t have a problem with modem users (or at least a lesser problem)

of course, i could go into something here about how all signatures are stupid because it just breaks the flow of information, instead of reading a block of text, you have to jump over (sometimes excruciatingly long/stupid) signatures to get to the next post. anything that disrupts the flow of information should be there for a good reason. Sigs aren't a good reason. IP Logged isn't a good reason. edit/reply buttons are about the only thing that can really justify being in the way.

I'll say yes on this one. However there should be limits. If a sig is too large, the mods should warn the person to make it smaller.

I'm on DSL but graphics in the signature STILL slow it down, I also find them useless and a waste of space forcing me to scroll through an inevitably longer page. So I would vote a NO NO NO NO and NO for images in signatures.

No. Unless you hack UBB to display the signature only ONCE per thread. There's nothing more annoying than seeing the same signature (+image) four-five times per thread...

No...I like the fact that these boards don't have the images in signatures...it makes them faster and better looking...though i might have to pull a ferro and start putting a sig at the bottom of each of mine. First i need to make one that looks good at a very small res. I feel like such a hipocrit right now. But still no. Lots of images+56k=bad news.

56k here. Nope. It would be cool but I come here to read not to see nifty pictures.
yes yes yes. all those who say no simply wouldn't have them, i think very few people would take the effort to have them. that would keep the load light on 56k's and let those members who would like an image have their way. this is something i would really really like to see, i could not see our boards users going over board with this.

No,

When the forums are really hopping, it's enough to have to load all the "confirmed" mockups when you view a thread.

yes absolutely!

as long as we keep to guidelines (like ferro's size). It gives much more color and lets us be more expressive and fun...

Half of me says yes I want to have as my sig.

The other half stops and thinks about what would happen if everybody had picture sigs *shudder*.
