Well, this is kinda new, and not completely invalid.

How about IBM? (In Before Merge) hwhwheee!!!

I don't think the story is anywhere near accurate though.

Apple probably has an Al redesign ready to go, but without a significant update to the CPU/FSB/I-O what's the point?

I'm sure they aren't waiting for the 9600 so much as they're waiting for either faster G4's or 970's to update BOTH the 15 and 17.

nah...they wont update the 17" anytime soon...probably not another 4 months

Not really, the 9000 and 4MX 440 perform about the samee in the PB's and the 7500 and 4MX 420 about the same in the iBook and 12"

OpenGl and those directX benches you read about are 2 different things on the mac and PC alike.

Also, I believe the new nVidia cards are on some sort of mini-package module, not user upgradeable, but much easier for Apple to swap in/out during production. I think Apple will contiue to use both for a better cost availability position since ther performance difference is negligible.

If they supply the 9600, expect it to be a high-end option, and they ought to consider going with a full 128MB too, given that many PB's might be asked to drive 1920+ display widths plus their own internal display.
