Anyone want to share their iTunes Libraries? - Page 4

Would it be feasible to have some kind of central location where people could indicate that they're sharing? I guess like people have done with iCal. Or maybe more like that tracker-tracker website for hotline/carracho.

A small app would be cool with a 'buddy list' type feature so you don't have to remember IPs.

So, using daap://andmyip I put a link to my iTunes shared music in my signature, and of course this will work anywhere you can put a link. Both Safari and Camino successfully passed daap:// to my iTunes and connected.

Coolest thing ever! I'm not a very clever monkey, please tell me how I can turn my sig into a link to my iTunes library.

Great idea! You can use the addressbook and use the homepage field to do this. daap://ipaddress in that field will open the link in iTunes. Just enable the addressbook bookmark menu in safari and you're set! I've done it and it works fine.

Code:

*url=daap://24.43.112.41*My iTunes Library*/url*

Put square brackets where there are *

Thanks Torifile. I also put it as my home page in my profile, so that should work...maybe.

could someone try and log in at ...

& lemme know if it works?

Thanks!

Thanks again Torifile. Good thing I decided to steer clear of a career in computers.

It connected fine but the stream stalls and rebuffers every few seconds. Although, I have three people connected to my iTunes-not sure if that makes a difference or not.

I connected fine, but it kept rebuffering about every 10 seconds

yeah and you could use it in conjunction with iChat. iChat would tell you whether the person is online, which would make it a pretty good bet that they're on iTunes as well.

It seems that we have similar tastes in music. Cool. I'm browsing your collection right now. Why no album labels for so many of your songs?

[thinking to self]maybe I'm more anal about my music than I thought...[/thinking]

That's a group vCard from Address Book. I think I got most of you who posted IP's in there. However, if you wrote something that indicates you have a dynamic IP, I skipped you.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot myself.

daap://cubedude.isa-geek.com

If I left you out of that list, just PM me and I'll add you and place a new version on the web.

Goes off to download iSync.

It's still very small as I trashed all my mp3's and am only in the begining stages of re-ripping to AAC.

If anyone is looking for something a bit obscure, I'd recommend the Brenda Weiler.

What happens if you right-click on the link and select "Download Link to Disk?"

Yup, it works that way. Now I've got 2 copies of everyone's stuff in my addressbook. Need to fix that now... BTW, maybe you should have versions of it since it'll reimport addresses and double them up. Just a thought. (Oh, and I'm not in there. 24.136.234.83)

Sorry, xionja, that's not your real IP address. Are you sharing your connection? Go to www.whatismyip.com and see what your real ip is. It's going to take some work to get it so that you can share because you're behind some sort of a router.
sorry, yeah its a router here is my real one:

24.59.109.104

thanks torifile

Finally it works!

confused. \

I'll add you.

Hmm. Did you do the stuff that I posted earlier in the thread? Opening up a port, changing your computer's airport network settings? I think we have the same type of set up so we'll get it working. Obvious question (don't be insulted): did you tell iTunes to share your music?

I mean that if I were to download the vcard that you added me to, I'd have doubles of everyone else who was in the vcard when I downloaded it the first time. So if you have different 'versions', I could only download the version that has people I don't have. Does that make more sense? Thanks for doing this btw.
Yeah that make sense. I'm working on a webpage so I don't have to fill my sig up with links.

BTW, g, I see you just fine. (always wondered what 'g' stood for...)
It's just an object. It doesn't mean what you think.
