Whatever you do.. don't exchange that type of information in a PM. I did that and I was nearly banned from here.

wow, that's patently false, Mac Man.

we can't read your PMs.

If you were ever 'almost banned' which you WEREN'T, it would certainly have not been brought about by something in your PRIVATE messages.

Lying doesn't make you cool.

I was once reprimanded in a way that strongly suggested a certain admin having read a PM I sent. Are you sure you can't read PMs? Maybe you could in ubb? If not, I have to wonder however I was found out back then.

Well I've got OpenFT, FastTrack, and Gnutella all working on one app. It took a lot of work in the terminal but there are some good directions on the net.

Step 1: download fink
Step 2: install gift
Step 3: install the FastTrack plugin
Step 4: Install Poisioned frontend.

It takes time on the CLI to accomplish this but it can be done and frankly works very well! I would post a picture but I have no place to host it so I will just add someone elses screen shot of it in action.

I have seen BitTorrent use all of the following ports:

6881, 6882, ..., 6889

Officially though, BitTorrent uses 6881 (and, to a lesser extent 6882).

Hey. Guys. There's a working Kazaa client for mac, and it's easy. Go check out the Acquisition support forums and download the Liberty beta.

Fasttrack == Kazaa

That's Peta Bytes chumps.

Serrano, did you do anything special to get it to work? I can't seem to get on the fast track. \

Just a question for the Mods-- why did I get flamed for asking whether anyone had a copy of Maya, when a whole thread about a piece of software that essentially promotes pirating goes on for 2 pages without any Mods bitching?

No fair.

There are legitimate uses for P2P software, and for P2P networks.

Asking for a copy of Maya is an absolute, unconditional solicitation for piracy.

For those having trouble connecting to Fasttrack...

1 delete ~/users/username/Library/Application Support/Liberty and start it up again...
2 forward port 1867 if necessary
3 enable only one network at a time. once both have successfully connected and you are able to search/download quit, restart, and enable both
4 the connections only take a matter of seconds, if you don't connect after 30 seconds try restarting the app, or item 1

I don't see why you guys are resorting to KaZaA.... Direct Connect is sOoOoOoOoOoO much better. The KaZaA network(s) can be shut down easily where as the Direct Connect hubs/servers are user run and they choose whether to let it serve or take it down. That's what I've always liked about DC. KaZaA is a virus brooding ground. Well for Window$ anyway... you never know... there could be a multiplatform virus that could kill your system......

It's easier in the sense that you can connect up to several hubs and all the search results are combined. Also downloads are more guranteed. On the KaZaA networks you always have to wait for something to come out of queue etc... Same with the Gneutella Networks. Sure with the FT and Gneutella Nets. you get several hosts..... On DC you can do but it's in forum of different hubs/servers. I also find DC better because each hub is categorized for different types of files. Like there are Japanese anime hubs, MP3 hubs etc... On KaZaA it's all scattered....

Heh, yeah, how true. My roommate (a PC user) accumulated 83 (non fatal) virii from Kazaa last year... By the end he thought it was funny, and tried to accumulate more. I wonder how many PCs on the school network he infected....

Haha that reminds me of my old roommate. He said he took his Gateway to the store and it had thousands of virii literally. Don't know if I believe him or Gateway personell but he found it funny and so did I. PC virii are funny. I mean using OS X I just find virii funny. There are 0 virii for OS X, they should list that as a Feature, and stop handing out Virex with .Mac.

What's all this about DC Proud iBook Owner 2k2, you are very excited about it, like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Since it's like Carracho or HL you can't just search for a particular song right? You have to bother whining at admins to get them to let you in. Sounds tedious and I remember reading about command line stuff. If it doesn't have a good Aqua GUI I won't waste time with it.

Here it is:

This is a slightly older version of the icon (drop shadow has been added and I am going for the Liberty bell instead of the Statue of liberty, because the Statue looks like crap when the icon is scaled to 50 x50), and doesn't reflect some recent tweaks. But this is roughly what it will look like.

EDIT: How the hell do you post images?!

No and No.

It's based on a share limit. x amount of gb's, and x amount of share slots open gets you in.

This is one of the single great reasons why I hope KaZaA never comes to the Mac in its full form. One of the great joys of being a Mac user (and being the go-to guy for less technically inclined Mac users) is that I don't have to spend hours or days trying to nurse some poor Mac back to health because of this kind of crap. KaZaA has already polluted my university's network with its junk, and since we run Exchange, Outlook and Word pervasively, it takes very little for virii to spread all over the place.

I treasure the fact that I can come back to my Mac, and open email with impunity (I have remote linking turned off), and surf with impunity, and otherwise not watch my Cube melt down the way I've watched far too many PCs melt down.

Until KaZaA finds some way to fix their disgusting business model, I hope they stay far away from my platform of choice.

Which infallibly got me into problems with my 20 GB iBook HD (with system and apps and personal files running more than 10 GB, leaving less than about 8 -for with Apple, and many others maybe, 20 GB = 18.6... GB- for sharing place, but you have to count out the system level swapping ground, so say about 6, and nobody would willfully clog their HD to fullness, so you leave open about a gig, so I have a small 5 gig share. Doesn't do much good if the minimum is 10 GB, 20 GB or more (of course, things will change as soon as my 320 GB "Big Disk" is rolled in).

Not only are there no OSX virii, "virii" isn't even a word.

Viruses, people, viruses. Fake Latinizing doesn't make you smart.

If KaZaA comes to Mac it means that the people who write all that spyware and adware - the people who pay KaZaA's bills - have agreed to port their crap over. Virii will follow as soon as the writers can figure out how.

I'm as worried about the "legitimate" spyware and adware as I am about the viruses, since in practice there's little difference between the two. I've seen them both destroy Windows machines.
