New Laptop model on October 15th. - Page 9

I am hearing from a reliable source the first two weeks of November for new Powerbooks. I am confident enough to put my current PB up for sale.

I tend to agree, I thought Apple was trying to get away from announcing products at the expos anyway. There's also the Christmas buying season to consider, when lots of people make their purchases. Perhaps an update in the consumer line (iMac, iBook, iPod etc) is more likely because of this.

Compusa is saying Out-Of-Stock and Limited Quanities for both the 667 and 800 PB....

And by the way, where it says "Mfg Part #:," in that picture above it also says, "M8592ll/ADISC" ADISC? Discontinued, perhaps? The 667 model does not carry this suffix.

Useless fact... MOST people who work for Apple know little if anything more than we do when it comes to future hardware. Yea those directly involved with the hardware might have some idea and yea some who have to do OS changes to support new hardware might have some idea as to a general time frame but other than that the rest are just as 'tuned in' as we are.... Well up till the very last minute...

I'm betting as the final day for a hardware release nears word does start to get out since more and more people inside apple 'need to know' but that's about it.

Apple now uses expos and press events for revolutionary new products while the other evolutionary new products just get a press release. However, Apple can also introduce a mix if the timing is right. If they have a press event in early November for the XRaid they can also mention the revised PowerBooks and iBooks at the same time.

They *could* which would be reasonable to assume but they've also done stuff like release new iBooks and Powerbooks just a week before the expo. They're trying to break us out of the habit of expecting multi-product launches so they can "normalize" our buying patterns.

Attention Internet Users!

"it's" contraction of "it is"
"its" possessive form of the pronoun "it".

It's shameful how grammar on the Internet is losing its accuracy.

It's also a shame how people choose to use a forum for the future hardware of Apple as a platform to discuss a grammar issue such as contractions. From grammar to netiquite, it appears everyone is quite the screw up.

Although the update of Apple's hardware offerings in January *will* be "one of the greatest in Apple history", there will be a minor one prior to that - but of accessories....

Sunkist-

First of all, I wasn't discussing it, it's just my signature. But since you went out of your way to attack me

It's a shame that I point it out, but it's not a shame that many members of this board have no grasp of third grade level punctuation, grammar or spelling?

The destruction of the English language by the casual use of the internet is a real problem in our culture.

That would be netiquette

If Apple do revise the spec.s of the iBook/Powerbook for Christmas, I'd expect it to happen sooner rather than later. A laptop isn't something that (most) people buy on impulse or at the last minute.

The '/A' is actually part of the Apple Part Number. I designates Revision Number to the part number. i.e rev. B iMac. Uses are sporadic as they sometimes change the whole number.

Anyhow, either way the 'Disc" after it is pretty straight forward.

And there you have it....

866/933 entry level please....

About Compusa thing. No, their not shipping in new hardware or Tbook, they're getting tired of less Apple sales. They're not selling Apple, just a "tiny margin". Remember Circuit City? They used to start carry Apple for less than a year, now they don't anymore. Price price price price! God damn Steve he needs to open his back door and let the price out.

FYI: This whole business of the wait time at the Apple Store going from 1-2 days to 5-7 days is not true. It is still 1-2 days. Just thought you should know that information is bogus.

CompUSA frequently loses money on PC sales, this is a known fact. They make it up by charging insane prices on peripherals and pushing the extended warranty.
In any case, some resellers need to die. Then Apple can sell more Macs direct, and we can get lower prices. Apple can't lower the price now because it's not making any money.

Apples the only PC company making any money or close to breaking even.

Some of you people really need to lighten up. First off, this is an Internet message board. Second off, this thread is speculating on a rumored laptop model, not finalizing the cure for cancer, so I think there is room for a little humor. Finally, it is quite ridiculous how some people decide when new models will ship. I swear, some of you people keep a herd of goats handy strictly for predicting these things.

So I was looking at the specs for the current Tibook and I noticed that it uses the older ATA/66 interface for its HDs. What do ya'll think of the chances of getting the faster ATA/100 drives on the next revision?

So if apple did:
800MHz|1GHz|1GHz
256MB PC2700 DDR|512MB PC2700 DDR|1GB PC2700 DDR
40GB ATA/100|40GB ATA/100|60 ATA/100
Combo|Combo|Superdrive
Radion7500 w/ 64MB DDR
Bluetooth (maybe)
$2499|$3199|$3799

I'd be very happy, and would regard it as a substantial upgrade.

ATA/100 makes no difference in a laptop compared to ATA/66. There's no point.

Just about zero.

Notebook drives are smaller, consume less power, and are therefor slower than desktop drives. ATA/66 is more than adequate in a notebook, where a 5400 RPM drive is fast and a 4200 RPM drive is standard.

I'm not even sure if they make ATA/100 notebook drives.

I'd rather see 5400 rpm drives become standard in Mac laptops before ATA 100. 4200 is pretty lame in any laptop if you ask me.

I think Apple just has to have an update real soon, even a minor one, just to offer a "new" model for Christmas buyers. Shoppers just do not like a 6 month old computer, and a "new' one has pizazz.

My two cents,

how long has the apple offer of $110 and $360 off memory and $360 off the high end been in effect! I cant remember such a obvious promotion before. I say next the 2 weeks will see a ghz powerbook! Along with a major hit to the old bank account...

Those rebates are for the entire product line, and mean nothing for the PowerBook.

Yeah, I know. It's just that someone started a thread stating this and it wasn't true. Tuesdays do hold some mystical significance for Apple and the 5th is a Tuesday. Something is coming very soon. Very soon.
