The keynote has been broadcast plenty of times, and so have large segments of other presentations. Some bits will be available via the ADC site only, all of it will be available on DVD (for a price).

That's just unfounded speculation - the reason could well be that Panther development was running late and they wanted to showcase that. It's been announced that all attendees will get a preview copy of Panther.

Really? Perhaps in percentage terms Apple sells more in Japan, but in absolute numbers there are more Mac sales in Europe. the UK alone is the third biggest market for Apple, and I don't think it's that far behind Japan.

It's far too inscrutible for us to fathom.

If I could move anywhere in the world I would move to Berlin. Inexpensive housing, great culture and fun people. The bars and clubs there are great.

Live, and FREE, via Quicktime? I just can't remember any; maybe before (iMac intro) or after (all, via ADC/DVD), but not live. Maybe I am popping that blue pill onlooker eluded to.

I think, going back a few years - say around '99, yes, live. But it could be that I just can't remember that far back.

99 was shown live via satelite and via streaming video. it was the first time and the last.... at least for the public

My goodness. I thought you folks distinguished between 'proper' and 'technically correct'. Be careful, settling for technically correct is a slippery slope - before you know it you'll devolve from queues to lines to rampant mindless hordes, just like Americans. There's a debate in the US now that 'nuk-u-ler' is a proper pronunciation of 'nuk-le-ar', thanks to our dear idiot president.

I think the bug up your rectum made you misunderstand the point of my post. I wasn't correcting your English - that is not mine to do. I was pointing out the fact that, despite English being their first (and often only) language, many native English speakers don't have the first clue as to the grammar and correct usage of that language. Consequently it can be said of such people that they don't actually have a language at all - unless you wish to count pidgin (or Tok Tok).

I was at the WWDC last year, and there was no webcast.

I had to type the play-by-play over the auditorium's Airport network onto DSLR's Mac forum for my friends. MacCentral and other sites do the same in real-time.

Did anyone else get a really lousy picture at MWSF via QT (Steve-O's keynote)?

English is a developing language with many dialects and conventions. If Oxford doesn't establish what is "proper" and "correct" then I don't know what does.

That doesn't mean that we have to accept everything we see written as "English". My favourite of the moment is the outright stupid use of "headed".

I don't think the 970 will be anounced at WWDC or on any event near june 23th.

Apple would not do this while they want to unleash the 970 just weeks after this.

So, me thinks...970 around september or later and a sneak preview of the 970 @ WWDC behind closed doors.

Yes they would! It's an extremely minor update.
It's called wanting to have the best product you can. Good companies will continue to improve a produect even if they know it will shortly be gone.

If true, the reason for this minor tweak to the PowerMac isn't obvious to me. One possibility is a firmware upgrade for Panther, and Apple is simply including it as soon as it is ready. Those who buy some of the last G4 PowerMacs will have less to complain about. Those who bought earlier will have to update their firmware for Panther. But that is only one possibility.

I don't think we can draw a conclusion about when the 970 PowerMacs will be introduced from this Thinksecret article. Introduction could still be at WWDC, with shipment immediately or within 30 days. Since Steve is not doing a keynote at Macworld in July, Apple will likely not introduce it then. So we are left with WWDC or a special event in the August / September time frame. We take our pick.

I guess that is why I still remember it. Anyway, here is my chant:

I do believe the 2000 WWDC keynote was broadcast via satellite/TechTV. Not sure about QuickTIme. I was there.

Apple has been videoing entire WWDCs for a while now, so the presence of a camera crew is not definitive. (They sell the classes to developers on DVD and via streaming from the ADC site).

According to the author of the report (Nick dePlume) there is no reason to think this update has anything to do with the PPC970's impending release.

I think he means yesterday's news from macbidouille. See here. It says that Apple Europe will invite press VIPs and resellers in Berlin to assist in direct retransmission of the WWDC keynote.

A guy in the Powerbook forum has just posted a message saying that he has been invited to the German event on the 23rd.

He has noted that it is being quoted as a 'Panther Launch', but that Panther will not be the only announcement...

He has promised to keep everyone informed.
