No colors in Terminal

Hi, I've been having a problem with getting colors to appear in the terminal. I believe it is probably caused by a shell setting, but I don't know how to fix it and I am hoping somebody here has some insight into the situation.

Anyway, I download the source code for angband available here, then I follow the UNIX compiling instructions, and everything goes fine. The game is playable and everything... but the text is all white. Normally the game should have text in many different colors.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how I could fix this?

It may be the way the terminal.app was compiled, or the apps themselves.

Finally, in OSX.3, the terminal, using bash, does ls -G (colour listing of directory). Yay!
