Backlit Keyboard Technology...

Thread Starter
I wonder if this technology will make it into the future line of Apple Pro (perhaps wireless?) keyboards for the desktop Mac matrix as well as portables.

I would personally LOVE to have a nice "smart" Apple keyboard that would light up at night. You know, for those late nights at work.

I would think that the illuminated keyboard might come to the new apple keyboard. I think the 17" powerbook is a sign of features to come to all the product lines. DDR, built in bluetooth, airport Extreme, firewire 800, etc. If I remeber correctly, the Apple Pro Keyboard and Mouse have been around quite a while. Maybe the next Powermac update will bring new ones.

it would be cool if certian appz made certain keys light up, or pulse. Keyboard commands, game controls, etc..

but i guess you would have to be in a low light enviorment to see them.

just a thought

Just so I'm clear, the new mini-Powerbook does NOT have the backlit keyboard. Is that correct?

Correct.

From Apple's Specs on PB site:
Ambient light sensor
Measures ambient light and works with integrated software to adjust keyboard illumination and screen brightness based on user preferences (17-inch model)

I would really like to see an Apple's 2 button (with both left and right clicks) scroll mouse. That would be perfect!!

Can you imagine having a typing tutor light the keys in the order in which you're supposed to press them?

Oooh, or a Merlin/Dance Dance Revolution style game where you have to press the lit keys as they progress.

do you think the tech in the 17 powerbook could be easily ported to the 12"? They have the same keyboards or at least the apple specs say they do so would it not be possible to rip off the fiber optics of a 17 and install it on a 12... or at least have a 3rd party developer do so... keys are easily replaced.

The fiber optic system can easily be installed on the 12" laptop. Right now, there may be a small supply of lighted keyboards so Apple is only using them in 17" laptops as an insentive to buy the most expensive. I expect all Apple laptops will have the technology soon.

And that Typing Tutor thing would be cool, especially in schools <6th grade. One problem however; You would need a independent LED for every key, and that sucks battery time.
