The convince your parents section is fantastic! I'm glad to see someone at Apple has a sense of humor with regards to this kind of marketing.

Dad, it's easy to laugh at your great jokes.
Especially when I'm listening to my new iPod.

I particularly like the convince your parents tab. Clearly aimed at the generation that likes messy colorful HTML design. Now they just need to get word out on this site and get it into parent's minds that they will (falsely of course) close the generation gap if they buy their kids an iPod.

That's a great site. It isn't unbearably preechy, yet it markets the product well. This is almost as much fun as the Gamecube site.

BTW, why don't they give in and use Flash?

Those downloadable screensavers don't look good on my 1280x1024 screen.

BTW, those "coupon" looks good.

It IS flash. QT can play flash files.

It is a Quicktime movie that is playing in the browser. What makes you think it is Flash? Just because you can open Flash files with Quicktime does not mean that this is flash. If it were Flash, it would just open it with the flash plugin.

How does that work? Do they just create a flash movie with Macromedia's tools and then somehow save it as a .MOV file using Quicktime Pro? Seems like a really odd thing to do.

What do you mean "how dpes that work?" It works the same way when you wrap mp3, aac, etc. into .mov files. It's not an odd thing to do when you consider the source. Apple's site is standardized around QuickTime. There's no reason for them to force you to invoke a separate Flash plug-in.

No I meant how did they create it. Does Flash MX allow you to save flash files as .mov or do you just import a flash file into Quicktime and then save that? From what you're saying it sounds like the later.

Fun site. Apple with tongue firmly planted in cheek. My friend at work thought ill of the "convince your parents" section (sounds manipulative at first) until he saw it for himself. I know I forwarded the link to a few friends, if only to tant them.

Did I mention it's a fun site?

PS: did everyone pick up the "coupons" and screen savers?

Where are the screen savers? I saw the one in the convince your parents section, are the rest of the commercials on the site?

edit: Nevermind, I get it.

Perhaps they used Livestage Pro for interactive QT content

Every time I try to load this site (ipodrocks.com), I get a screen that tells me I need to update Quicktime. No way I need to update QT if I'm running Panther with all updates. The page redirects to an Apple QT update page where the latest update is for Jaguar 10.2.8. ????

Doh! Never mind...

I had removed Quicktime Plugin.Plugin from Library/Internet Plugins so downloaded movies would open QT Player rather than opening within Safari. Replacing the plugin made the site load normally.

Thanks, applenut, I figured this out at the same time you were posting, and edited my post to reflect my error.
