I'm seriously stumped. What technologies are currently being used in high end PCs, servers, workstations, etc. that apart from each other are nice additions, but together add up to all of this hype? What's been announced in the past year as coming soon that hasn't shown up yet? What combination of the above is going to push the Mac so far past the rest of the computing world to live up to this hype?

Personally, I think the hype is seriously tied into a new PowerMac. It's the flagship speed product and that's the best way to market a computer...raw speed. All of this marketing crap can't be about a remake of the twentieth anniversary Mac. I think it has to be the PowerMac.

What the hell have we skipped?

Solid state harddrive? Is it feasible? It can't simply be quad PowerMacs because that's not "way beyond" what's been discussed a thousand times.

Just a new iDevice? I can't believe it, unless it's something that really expands their direction.

Like I said, I'm stumped. This hype has really worked.

No I just got up (european time) I saw the non update at Apple and expected the worst about these boards. You must all have had a hard time

Now this sleepless thing could have been directed at us or....

"Sleepless"...hmmm where? Sleepless in Seattle perhaps? Whats in Seattle (or close to it)? Redmond. What they release tomorrow is gooing to whipe out MS. AppleWorks that really works? X on x86? Hostile takeover (Jobs as CEO of MS)?

I'm trying really hard to ignore this possibility because it's too good to be true. There are some signs though, and that scares me.

Plus, as I said in some other thread, Apple needs a product that they can charge a monthly fee for. They've got millions of us willing to pay for services that cater to us. It'd be good for the bottom line....

I'm still leaning towards something more tangible. Ultra-fast hardware. Power4?

Morning Anders, how do you keep on changing your sig (and putting in IMGs for that matter...)

Is anyone else having trouble with seeing the formatting of [QB]? It only bolds the first paragraph for me...

Those two are related. My sig is a pseudo sig. Its really in my message. And the reason for the [ 01-06-2002: Message edited by: Anders ]
text is that I keep forgetting that I have to make it in the text.

So what I do is basically to post with my signature on (like this message), slap my forehead, copy the line plus the [img]-thing displayed under this, edit the post, uncheck the sig. box and repost.

well, i just got in to san francisco. but before i left l.a. i was having dinner at my favorite sushi restaurant and my friend and i bumped in to an old friend of his from when he worked on the apple advertising account (the friend still works on the ad account, but i won't go in to detail about him for obvious reasons). i told him about how crazy it was here and how everyone was just going nuts in speculation.

of course, he didn't give me any info (because that's a great job to KEEP), but he said that it WAS GOING TO BE HUGE. now, i doubt he speculates the same thing about steve's keynotes as we all do. but, he made it out to be a gigantic event that would leave us breathless.

not much to go on i know. and this would be a pretty lousy lie if i made it up. LOL. but it got me happy nonetheless. take it for what you will.

The more I read the previous and current slogans, the more I think it points to the iBrator. I'm not even kidding every single slogan has a sexual overtone, and the sleepless night clue is just too far. I am actually getting creeped out by the possibility of Apple coming out with a falic device.
I want a faster Mac, but it's the funds I lack.

you're right. i didn't think about it at the time. but from the brief conversation he was having with my friend, he does seem to have direct contact with the man. funny you should mention the slogans, i think i might know the guy who wrote them. not well, but he used to be partners with my friend (who was a creative director on apple). my friend actually laughed about me getting worked up over the slogans and said that eric probably just had some junior copywriter whip up a bunch of lines a couple weeks ago. probably true.

One interesting thing on both <a href="http://www.apple.com" target="_blank">www.apple.com</a> and <a href="http://www.apple.com/home/" target="_blank">www.apple.com/home/</a> the alt text is "just one more". So the earlier alt text was changed. Maybe Steve (he does PERSONALLY supervise every aspect of the company ) didn't Appreciate the implicit complaint and threatened to keep them till one in the morning every night from now on .

Back on pg 24 of this thread (can you believe we're now cross referencing page numbers within the thread itself???)

Anyway, way back there Macintosh responded to -- fvck, I can't remember -- psantoras (iThink) gentle ribbing over his older brother's role in introducing him to macs.

It got me thinking...

That's the perfect strategy to increase market share, but instead of siblings we use our children. And instead of the regular allotment of 2.2 children, all the mac faithful have somewhat more. Say 5 or 6, all mac users. We'd overtake windows in no time. Get to it people, Procreate!

Well, it looks like that's it for the slogans (unless they do one more tonight). Pretty cool, and VERY hyped up.

Every day after I read the slogans, I start thinking that Apple could release just about anything, and it takes quite awhile for me to start lessening my hopes for the keynote. I don't want to be disappointed tomorrow, so hopefully Apple has something big to show us.

I think they'll do one more tomorrow. They can't leave it at "one more sleepless night" in the morning.
So the countdown will be gone, but the original Apple page won't go back up, that wouldn't make sense.
