Most people in these forums seem to think there will be a new iMac released on J7. However, why would Apple launch a new iMac right after Christmas? Releasing a new model would only annoy 'new' to Apple customers and infuriate the Mac 'faithful'!
Instead the iMac will be phased out by Feb 2002 and a new model of the cube/iMacII will be introduced. The new model will come bundled with a standard (wide screen) monitor though an upgrade to larger screen would be optional extra.
The 'BIG' order for LCD's is because there will be a new Apple monitor range - all in wide screen format. Apple are keen to offload the current models so these look likely to be replaced come J7.
The new monitors will also come with a remote control - the idea being that you'll be able to control your DVD's iMovies and iTunes etc from the comfort of an armchair. The original iMac had infer-red (remember?). The credit card remote will sport an iPod interface without the LCD display - the options would appear on the monitor. It will also be possible to boot your Mac from this control 'iPad'.
