Bad news. He was a giant and certainly a good person.

It was a genius and a giant. I just hear Georgia on the radio and it moved me to tears.
He passed at the age of 73 of liver disease. He will stay forever a legend of soul music.

Amen, some really ageless stuff he sang and wrote.

Goodbye.

Sad news indeed. Have to go and play some of his stuff now, we'll always have that to appreciate and enjoy, even dance to. R.I.P.

What made Ray great was that he sang all kinds of songs.... Blues, R&B, Country, Pop Standards and everything in-between. He brought his distinctive style to everything he sang. His recordings of Country and Pop Standards were sensational. He was also a very good jazz pianist/organist.

RIP Ray

Watched Blues Brothers a few weeks ago. That movie boosted his career all over again. The R&B medley he performs is great.

"Now Baby, listen Baby, don't you treat me this-a way
'Cause I'll be back on my feet some day,
Don't care if you do, cause it's understood,
You got no money, and you just ain't no good
Well I guess if you say so
I'll have to pack my things and go (that's right)"

RIP.

iTMS has a nice feature on Ray on the front page linking to some of his classics,
not included is one of my favourites from the era of metaphorical lyrics...

As a non-American, I've always been baffled that more folks don't push for Ray's version of "America the Beautiful" to replace the Star Spangled Banner as the national anthem... always figured Ray owned the signature version of that tune and found it equally as patriotic, if not more so.

Maybe it's not the song that gave chills, it was just Ray.

He'll definitely be missed.

RIP, brother.

Ray Charles' talent and character made him one of the most significant persons of our time, at least for those who would have lived most of their years in the twentieth century.
I'm sad to see him go, he is missed.

So long.

What a great performer! I've liked pretty much everything he's done including the duet he did with Billy Joel " My Baby Grand ".

It's always extra sad when someone like this is gone.
