Bush asks McCain to help block 527s

President Bush wants to work with Sen. John McCain to take legal action against "shadowy" outside groups that have been spending millions of dollars on ads criticizing the president and Democratic rival Sen. John Kerry, the White House said Thursday.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush called the GOP senator from Arizona on Thursday morning and said that, if legal action does not work, he wants to pursue legislative action against the groups.

This is BS. Not only are politicians lying sacks of shit, they now want to silence third party organizations that spread the truth. Given the fact that there are both democratic and Republican 527s, the game is balanced. What are they trying to accomplish by silencing them? It is OK for Politicians to lie, it isn't ok for someone to call their bluff? Even assuming that the 527s are lying, are GWB and Kerry afraid of their corporate sponsorship going to waste? If the presidential nominee's rely soley on TV ads to gain popularity... How about periodic 'meet the press' type of events to counter the 'lies'?

At this rate, only state sponsored television will run policital advertisements that are approved for viewing by the general public. Incompetent people who can't do more than read a prepared statement will continue to rule the nation. Democracy is dead.

Democrats have a large funding advantage within the 527 groups. GWB is merely looking out for his own self-interest, and trying to eliminate a source of Democrat funding.

A time will come to pass when there is a Democratic incumbent and the Repbulicans will have an advantage in 527 group funding, and therefore will support 527 groups.

I wonder how much cooperation Bush can get from McCain. In general, I think it's safe to say that McCain is torn between party loyalty and wanting to tell Bush and a lot of his cronies to go take a flying f*ck.

Seems to me he's just trying to get out infont of it. That way he can look like he's opposing SBVFT while not actually doing so. If he wins he can take down MoveOn.org. Either way the end result it to help Bush.

I think people have forgotten what freedom is though.

If they get rid of 527s, they need to start both campaigns using matching funds at the same time. With the Democratic National Convention much earlier than the Republican National Convention, President Bush has been able to continue fundraising and airing ads using that money while Senator Kerry has been running solely on the matching funds.

After the convention, President Bush will get the same amount in matching funds but hasn't had to stretch it out as long as Senator Kerry has.

I think that in future elections, both camapigns should get the matching funds to run on at the same time. I also think that both parties should still have their conventions a month or so apart so the American people can actually watch them and focus on the issues. Having them back to back or even simultaneously would only burn people out and make them turn away when they should be watching both conventions and having an educated, factual opinion when they go to the polls.

As a republican and a conservative I am shocked, and verry angery to put ut nicely that bush would do this, first he via the fcc tries to block freedom of speach all because we saw a mili-second of Super-bowl-titty, never mind the streakers that are shown on televised sporting events from time to time.

But this is insane, Bush would say that I, with my own money, can't boy an ad saying Kerry is bad or Bush is bad?
CFR was bad enough, but this , you may as well change the inscription on the statue of liberty to "SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP"
Kerry feels the same way, so we have two wanna-be dictators running for president.

Come to the light it's so much easier. I used to be a staunch conservative/republican. I shifted for this election because I saw what a goon Bush was early on. Kerry IS the lesser of two evils. Personally I agree with Kerry on a lot of points--many conservatives would if they took the time to listen to him.

NeoCon==gutter politics/country in the toilet.

Dem pres/Repub congress/split sentate== prosperity

We need to split up the powers again and make government inefficient so stupid shit like blocking speech can't ever be passed.

My 2 cents.
