Hey Scott: look at these Ant-Semitic republicans

Thread Starter
This is from Salon . . . recently Republicans have been attaccking Soros for giving money to 527s . . .. well, some of them have been pulling out the old favorite "international jewish conspiracy" kinda stuff . . .. does it really surprise anyone?

does anyone really think that these 'born again' Fundies who 'support' Israel really care about Jews?!?!
It is obvious that they think only that God's plan will use them and then they either convert of go to hell . . . ..........and I'm sure I know where most of the fundies want them to go . . .

The rhetoric in this artcle reveals what is thinly burried under the religious-NeoCon attitude:

Smearing Soros

George Soros is sparing no expense for the effort to boot Bush from office in November, backing groups like MoveOn.org, Center for American Progress and America Coming Together. That has earned him a place on the GOP enemies list, right up there with Michael Moore. By the rules of the dirty tricks playbook, he's due a smear or two. Dennis Hastert has obliged, suggesting that Soros is in cahoots with drug cartels. The Hill newspaper reports that Soros is fighting back. He sent this fax to Speaker of the House Hastert: "Your recent comments implying that I am receiving funds from drug cartels are not only untrue, but also deeply offensive. You do a discredit to yourself and to the dignity of your office by engaging in these dishonest smear tactics. You should be ashamed."

But it gets better -- or worse -- if you keep reading the article.

"Conservatives have sought to discredit Soros by attacking his foreign and Jewish roots and his support of liberal causes ... 'No other single person represents the symbol and the substance of globalism more than this Hungarian-born descendant of Shylock. He is the embodiment of the Merchant from Venice,' wrote GOPAC, an organization that helps elect GOP candidates, on its website last year."

"In William Shakespeare's 'Merchant of Venice,' Shylock was the Jewish banker whose venality would not stop him from cutting human flesh to repay loans."

"Shylock?" Now that's subtle.

The article they are referring to is here: The Hill

Can you believe that in this day and age, you have a group of politicians calling a Jewish business man a 'Shylock'?!?!?!
That is incredibly dispicable . . . .

But why has it gone under the radar screen for so long?

That's horrible. They should be kicked out of the party if it's true.

Excellent. Now who do you nominate as the new Speaker of the House?
They spoke of the sayings and doings of their commander, the grand duke, and told stories of his kindness and irascibility.

If I read it right Hastart didn't make any bigoted comments. Not that his comments were appropriate either. It's like the Howard Dean of the republicans.
