PowerBook UK Page updated:

High-speed Architecture

Faster than ever, PowerBook G4 computers all feature PowerPC G4 processors that provide robust performance for complex multimedia or data intensive applications. The 15-inch and 17-inch models boast processor speeds of up to 1.5GHz, and the 12-inch model now offers speedier performance with its 1.33GHz processor and new 1.67MHz system bus.

1.67? isn't that the new processor speed - that makes the bus look even worse!!!

These are the bus speeds for Freescale's mobile G4 processors:

The 7447 is 167 MHz
The 7448 is 200 MHz
The 8641 is 667 MHz

Current PowerBooks use the 7447 and it is rumored that the updated PowerBooks will use a 7447B variant at 167 MHz as well. The 7448 is most likely not ready yet though miracle or miracles it could be ahead of schedule. Doubtful though.

667 MHz now that's a proper bus!

This is the system that allows teh cpu to talk to other components such as Ram. The slower the communication with ram the less it can calculate each cpu instruction execution. To me this is more important on PPC chips (RISC) since their cpu executions are less complicated than x86 (CISC). They are executed faster, but it needs to be read from ram more to do the same execution on x86. RISC is usually faster, but it can be bottlenecked this way.

Supposedly (according to the 20-page! Macnn pb thread) there may be something to the fact that the powerbook software page Shows iLife 05 preinstalled while the store shows iLife 04 preinstalled. The implications are obvious. Anyone else know someone at a "university store" that knows a whole bunch about "big pb news tomorrow"?

That's because there are no software pages on iLife '04. They've just replaced the links, they've done this with other hardware.

If it doesn't come within 2 hours (by 9PM PST), it's not coming today.

What? It's not even 7AM in Cupertino. I bet Jobs hasn't even put on the money making jeans and turtleneck yet.

Give them till noon at least, before swearing it off.

Everyone is abandoning hope already? Geez, what is this, the reformation?

No, if it doesn't come between 8:00 am and 9:00 am Eastern Time, it will no t happen. This is ALWAYS the way it has worked, UNLESS Steve is doing a special presentation or a keynote.

If they don't come today I guess maybe the delay in shipping really was just to pre-load iLife '05 onto them.

I was being sarcastic. I find it funny that the guy Apple is suing for posting leaked information also happens to be the guy sticking out his neck with his Powerbook bump rumors.

Is everyone too wound up in here to have a little fun?

The longer they make us wait the higher our expectations will become.

Speaking for myself... Yes. It has been an unreasonably long wait and for such a small update.

What I meant was the longer Apple puts off this update the more people will think something big is happening. A better question might be:

What features do you expect to see in a PowerBook released in June vs a PowerBook released tomorrow?

By the way, it looks like inventories are being replenished. Does this mean we may have another 5 or 6 months of waiting in store for us?

Let the G5 and Dual-Core G4 speculation begin!

Perhaps it is a CPU (7447B) stock issue and they are waiting Freescale to provide enough of them before they show the new Powerbooks in the online store.

Oh, it is left one hour until 09:00 EST and the Apple Store is still up, so can we start assuming safely that there will be no update today?
