iDVD w/ external burners?

Has anyone gotten iDVD to work any drives other than apple's built-in superdrive?

I'm ready to plunk down the cash for a dvd burner, but it seems they are useless if you can't use iDVD with it.

Yes, I know DVD studio pro will work, but that's a little out of my range!

If you search around, you'll find patches for idvd.

Kind of vague answer, but good news. I'll post some links in here if I find anything. That way other people won't have to scour the internet helplessly.
