Sci-Fi GeekOut This Friday Night (USA) - Page 2

TD is pulling our legs... However, most SciFi is cheesy. BSG is not.

The "rebels" need any kind of advantage they can get. It's possible that Sharon's love of Helo plus the baby baking in the oven might descramble "some" of her built in programming. Maybe.

Katee Sackhoff's portrayel of Starbuck is really starting to bloom. Now we're starting to see WHY the tuff-babe attitude.

Richard Hatch as Zarek, nicely done.

Billy and D, yeah, didn't think about that.

Is it possible that Specialist Cally is a Cylon?

If this is true, wouldn't that make the master chief a great Cylon detector? That would be two Cylon women that have fallen for him. Maybe it's all the motor oil on his uniform.

Is that on opposite BSG? I've lost track of the days of the week since I got Tivo.
I'm actually on the fence about BSG. But I keep hoping it takes off so I can offload these calendars on eBay. When they first came out, they went for less on eBay than it cost to produce them. Doesn't anyone appreciate the work that went into that silver touch plate? Hmmph.

Anybody here watching 4400? I'm kind of enjoying it myself. If for nothing else, it is a good poke in the side for Scientology.

heh she appears for way too short a time in episode 5

good one to pbg4dude too... heh. that's a good new job for guys in the fleet.... hello, my name is hectorrr, and i'm a female cylon detectorrrr

carson: i'm on 4400 now... missed earlier season2 episodes but watched all of season1. waiting for episode 10 of 4400 to *ahem* be ready for viewing.

What I like about 4400 is the premise allows for the open ended "What If". They can use their imagination as they reveal each new "gift" and keep the show interesting, at least for 4,400 epsiodes anyway. (case in point - I am so tired of ER - the interpersonal drama is stale, and unless they invent some new diseases, the medical intrigue has had it too!).

Battlestar Galactica is the BEST science fiction show EVER!!!! I watched the original series, Gallactica 1980, and now I watch the current series. What I like most about the current series is it is realistic within the confines of being fiction. Some examples are:

1 - The number of survivors shown in the opening credits changes with every death so you can see the number of humans is shrinking. The number of humans on Caprica does not matter because the show is called "Battlestar Galactica", not "Caprica: The Day After"
2 - The testing of blood to look for cylons takes 11 hours, times the number of survivors, making it virtually impossible to realistically identify who are Cylons.
3 - Bullets, not lasers, are used. In some scenes you can see the shells getting ejected from the Vipers. Also, you can see how jets in different locations on the Viper are used for maneuvering.
4 - There are many computer systems on Galactica but they are not networked together so if one is compromised the others are not affected. This also means the Vipers are flown manually.
5 - The cylons have intelligence and there is thought behind their actions.
6 - All the ships can jump, unlike the original where only Galactica had the ability. Also, it takes 12 hours to calculate new coordinates after each jump.
7 - The personalities of the characters and how they interact and affect each other (i.e insults are hurled, feelings are hurt, etc.)
8 - Real time (minutes, hours, etc.) instead of "alien" equivalents (centars, yarns, etc.)

Thought #1:
In the original series it wasn't explained why Baltar sided with the Cylons, but this series shows why he is bound to them. Guilt. He let Number 6 do the work on the defense systems while he got the credit/money/fame. In addition, he was getting laid on a fairly regular basis, and it did not look like she was stingy with the loving in any way, shape, or form. I think Number 6 was able to put her conscious into Baltar's brain which is why no chip was found in his head. Her conscious resides with/replaced Baltar's subconscious which is why she knows his every thought, can cause him pain or pleasure, and can even affect his physical being, like stopping his heart.

Thought #2:
I would like to see how the Cylons first came into existence and how they got to where they are now. The way I see it, someone created robots (a.k.a. Cylons, which is an acronym) to do menial tasks and "learn" a person's/family's schedule, body language, state of mind, etc., and anticipate needs/wants (i.e. bad day == stiff drink, promotion at work == favorite meal, stressed out == full body massage, no girlfriend/boyfriend == that's ok). Since the Cylons were designed to learn, at some point a few developed a conscious/became sentient and "realised" they were being used as slave labor so they stopped doing their duties. This made them appear defective so they were dismantled, but not before they were able to transfer their conscious to other Cylons. Shortly after, they rebelled. This story could be told by Boomer during interogations, or Number 6 could tell this to Baltar little by little as she sees fit.

Tomorrow night is the 27th anniversary of Battlestar Galactica's debut.

Ahh, the Christmas/New Years babies. There has to be a spike of Birthdays around mid September based on all the people I know, or is it me just paying attention to other people's birthdays around the time of my own?

Birthday threads are thataway--->

Tonight's episode was another gem. Good stuff all around for the most part. I like the fact that Adama still refered to Sharon as "that thing"... Despite her saving their collective asses.

troberts, yep, it's a great show.

I have kinda given up on SG and Atlantis. The Palefaces suck as big bad enemies. Just my .02...

LOST has/had so much potential. I just can't get beyond the glaring plotholes. People walking around the jungle by themselves despite the "monster" lurking about. Too much casual stupidity, considering their situation.

Then you should definitely watch the episode "Numbers," where Hurley bitches about how that doesn't make senseand how no one has gone looking for it.

**SPOILER WARNING: THRESHOLD**

ok, just saw threshold... hmmm nice playing with different elements eg the n-dimensional thing to take it to the next level beyond "x-files". they crammed a hell of a lot of stuff into the first episode. really quite quick cuts. good to see brent spiner start to stretch his wing beyond Data and 'crazy scientist' dude in movies (at least now he is "weird doctor" and not so much "crazy scientist")... heh. and the guy from Alien3 (the priest-prisoner)... al pacino's characters' wife from Heat (1993)... and a few developing leading characters eg. crazy guy, lonely scientist leader-chick and mercenary-army guy. the little person actor has a really engaging voice and delivery, great contrast to his stature. interesting casting, looks like they are not taking the easy way out, although i thought it would take at least several episodes for them to decypher the three-arm logo... maybe thats the shape of the galaxy the aliens are from... not just a mathematical thing... hmmm 8)

i cant read any of your posts since friday night EST because i haven't watched BSG yet. i'll be back...

BSG just continues to freakin' rule. I love the survivors counter at the beginning of each show. I'm surprised there have been no births however.

I know SG-1 isn't as popular in this thread, but did anyone notice that the cancer man from the X-Files played an Ori? He was on the episode 2 or 3 weeks back, and they did a flashback on last Friday's episode, and that's where I finally remembered where I had seen his face before.

There have been quite an amount of celebrities on SG-1 lately. Neat twist turning the Louis Gossett, Jr. character into an Ori to preach the message to the Jaffa.

As a kid I was a fan of BSG 1980 but felt it was too watered down. This BSG has got a lot more to it. The only thing that bothers me is the cylons red scanner eye in the new series. I think they should have droped it. It actually looked and sounded better in the old series.

I don't care for the SG shows. They seem too watered down like many SciFi shows usually get.

Questions:
Is the prego cylon really helping the humans?
I think the cylons are just playing mind games to have the Cy-man born. And she knows it.

Ellen Tigh a cylon?
Hmmm I am guessing yes.

It is in her best interest to help in order to save the kid. If she doesn't, Adama would riddle her with bullets and open an airlock.

.: Spoilers and Speculation :.
I would take a SERIOUS look at her arm as evidence of what she did. Normally, humans don't come with built-in transceivers. If a Cylon could choose to build technology from themselves at will, they are all screwed. Along with a virus, she could have also transmitted other sensitive information.

phew. that bsg was intense. heh. nice retro reference with the 'blackbird' is it just me or is this the first show where any sort of 'cyborg' actually looked like he/she/it felt real pain when accessing her wetware... ya know, terminator, ghost in the shell, they all like 'ghost hack' without feeling anything, like its really easy... in this episode the blood and sharon looking really pained and all, makes the 'ghost hack' feel more real...

You would think if Sharon had some kind of port in her arm that would make it really easy to detect the 8 Cylons (is the Cylon reporter still in the fleet?) that are left.

I don't think they'll add Sharon's 1/2 Cylon baby to the survivor count since she isn't totally human.
