Actually, I misread your previous post, my mistake.

Yes: people should just get over it.

On the other hand, the constant jabs at AI in AN just get on my nerves sometimes, and I think you'll find (my opinion) that there's a lack of such jabs here.

No drama. As I said above I think the relationship between the two boards has improved dramatically in the last few months, and I put a lot of it down to AI allowing AN to 'regroup'.

the AN archives are the only record of the schism... and only date from the time immediately around the split... they were locked soon after (but kept for historical sake).

the AI records were... um, [strike]censored[/strike] uh, purged, along with thousands of useful posts by several of the former mods. discussion of the split was banned, and links to AN were redirected or removed. different policies, clearly.

nonexistant isn't for the reasons you might think, but you'd have to ask Kasper for his reasons before you start calling kettles black.

there are many who frequent both communities and find value from the member opinions in each.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Who is right or wrong, well that is another thing.

Agree to disagree, and move on. This is not helping.

I for one was looking for AI's return because I wanted it too return. I have been posting here for a couple of years and it would be sad to see its demise (though it would be nice to have a bit of warning next time!! ).

It's nice to see that Kasper likes to shut down the forums when people want to use them the most. Great customer service. I'm glad we are such a priority.

I feel your pain, but I also felt the pain of the forum coming to a grinding halt in the run-up to the event today. The forums would have been useless in the time that the keynote was taking place.

I didn't expect the forums to take so long to come back online, though.

Hopefully Kasper can shed some light on it.

There seems to be another rumor forum that stayed up the entire time...but I won't name names.

They are hosted on their own server - not connected to one of the largest Apple news sites on the net which was also getting hammered.

Ahem.
IF we can get down to the business of suggestions?

I'd like to propose the addition of a new forum along the lines of the iPod+ Forum?

The Vingle Forum.

Thank you for listenin'.

The folding oddness is because I have a pile of work machine folding, scattered across 12 buildings. The owners wanted to run it (good cause and all) but I didn't think it worth going through and changing team numbers just because I'm folding for another team as well.

As far as I'm concerned, the end product all goes back to stanford regardless of which member or team it's credited to, and that's what matters.

Sorry guys,

There was a death in my family a couple of weeks ago and I was unavailable from the 6th to about the 12th. During this time someone with access to our system -- we are hosted in conjunction with several other Apple news sites -- edited a configuration file and accidently commented out some important information, which left forums.appleinsider.com pointing to the wrong directory. Since no one could get in touch with me, I was unaware of the problem until 15 minutes before it was ultimately fixed.

It was just a mistake that hit with bad timing,

Kasper

So when can we expect these forums to collapse under their own weight today? How many hours will it take for them to come back AFTER the keynote is over? Should I just check back tomorrow?

Hopefully they won't be down at all. Nobody is stopping you from not visiting unitl tomorrow though, so feel free.
