Macintel iMac Memory question. . .

Thread Starter
I have the Dual 2gig Macintel iMac.

I'd like to up the memory, but not sure what the memory layout is for this box.

Is it one 512MB SIMM?

Or 2 256MB SIMMS?

Right now you have 1 512MB So-Dimm. You have one open slot. Hope this helps a little.
*Powerbook G4 12" - 1.5 GHZ
*iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ (Mid 2007), *Apple 20-inch Cinema Display (Aluminium)
*iPhone 4S, Airport Extreme (2011) *MacBook Air 11-inch (Late 2010)

What he said. The iMac Core Duo has 2 memory slots and in stock configuration comes with a 512MB SO-DIMM installed in one of them.

Now, you could get another 512MB module for a total of 1GB; which should be enough for everyday use.

I would, however, recommend to get a 1GB stick (in addition to your stock 512MB one). This way, you will be able to keep it if one day you want to swap the stock module for another 1GB stick; bringing your total memory to the maximum 2GB.
If you went for the 512MB module today, you would have to swap that, too - and buy two 1GB SO-DIMMs then.

Apart from that; extra RAM is always good.

There is a 1GB PC2-5300 SO-DIMM on sale for $169 and change at crucial.

Wow that price has gone up. I'm glad I bought mine the week after launch. BTO RAM is looking better and better.
