BOXX w/ woodcrest, good predictor of powermac price?

I just noticed that BOXX has a configuration page with what I think is the new woodcrest Xeon 5100 series processors:

http://www.boxxtech.com/products/8300.asp

If the new powermacs are the same price, then I think that we may be in for a surprise price hike: $3500 for dual 2ghz/400gb/2gb, $4800 if you want 3ghz woodcrest.

Are BOXX systems typically sold for powermac-like prices, or are they more expensive?

I don't think they'll be going head-to-head with Boxx. More likely Dell and HP. I just config'd a Precision with a 2.0GHz Woodcrest and matched it up as best I could with the current Power Mac G5 and it priced in at $2,002. The graphics card will be the deciding factor with the new Mac Pros. Apple better offer something reasonable and something competitive.

Probably not. Boxx and Dell need high margins on high-end stuff. Expensive stuff like that is all Boxx sells, thus it's all marked up to double what they pay for it.

I would have gone with Alienware for a pricing comparisons if they were available from them yet. BOXX is typically way overpriced IMO.

So I would have to say that the Apple versions will be less expensive than BOXX.

Did you remember to note that the default GPU in the Boxx configurator is the $1200+ Quadro GPU? So you can effectively subtract about $800 or more from all those prices.
