Languages on Mac OS X

Hello guys, this is my first post in the forum.
I'm from Greece and i am thinking of buying the new intel MacBook.
In the Greek market there are two editions of that laptop, the Greek one and the English one.
The english edition is about 100 euros cheaper than the greek.
Some people said me that the English edition doesnt support greek and that i will be able to write only a few things in greek.
I just want to know if such thing is true and if so, will i be able to update my OS so that i can have full use of the greek language.
I know that all the menus will be in english but i dont care about that. Iam interested only in being able to write and read greek texts on the web or on files.

I appologise for any language errors, but english is not my native language.

well im not sure on the greek language in OSX but i can tell
you your english was very easy to read :-)

I can only answer that Greek does not appear as one of the language choices in my System Preferences.

I can't read the Greek alphabet but there was at least one entry using that alphabet in Systems Preferences > International > Language > Edit List. International > Input Menu has two Greek keyboards to select from.

aresee beat me to it....

Not the Greek version probably means the same as not the Japanese version: the manuals and info stuff are all in English or whatever. Your English is good enough to go with the English versions, and, using the input method steps shown above, you should be able to type in Greek no problem.

Is there a special Greek keyboard? Would not having it be a problem? The Japanese keyboard has a very small space bar; since English requires lots of space(s), I buy the English keyboard and things work fine both ways.

 

Your = the possessive of you, as in, "Your name is Tom, right?" or "What is your name?"

 

You're = a contraction of YOU + ARE as in, "You are right" --> "You're right."

Actually the MacBook is for my girlfriend and she is a rookie in using a computer. But this is not my problem. At least It is possible to write in Greek, BUT is there any kind of update so that all symbols are added to the library? Iam telling that because Greek language has some
distinctivenesses such as grammatical accents that are essential to type a text.

OK I hane an other question, Will i be able to open sites written in Greek?
For example www.in.gr, which is like your yahoo.

I wouldnt say so,, but its true that the apple computres are new in the Greek market.
Also you should consider that the English XP have full support of the Greek language (typing and reading).
I hope that Mac do the same.

It supports both typing and reading, but again, typing is a bit slower/awkward on an English keyboard.

I tried loading the Finder and it's not translated to Greek, but I don't know if an official Greek Mac will be, either.

That page does load fine.

I typed the previous sentence in an old Powerbook running under Panther. I hope you can read it right.

I expect that current OS X machines would support Greek at least as good as the older ones. Needless to say that Greek is displayed correctly in my system.

So there is no reason for paying 100euros more only to have the greek version...

Well, yes, if all you are interested in is reading and typing in greek corerctly. However, if you also wish to have the entire OS in greek (including system messages, menus etc.), then the greek version is the way to go. At least that's my inderstanding from a very old now greek version of Mac OS I used in the past.

Of course there is:

Mac OS X Tiger (not sure if it is the greek version ot not, but you can always ask them).
