Greenpeace are Liars. Anti-Apple Campaign. Time to hit back

Greenpeace are a bunch of hypocritical lying bullshit artists.

They have recently published a list putting Apple on the top of an e~toxic scale of producers.

I am not disputing that they may have a valid point as regards to some chemicals like certain fire retardants, but the way they have presented and manipulated public claims against Apple...make my blood boil.

It's one thing to tell a truth as you see it, but quite another to back it up with bullshit images or images that appear to have been set up or photoshopped to make it look like Apple is killing children in India and China.

as here...

http://www.greenpeace.org/apple/about.html

Here is what I wrote to them about their dishonest campaign.

Quote:
*Yep..that's what I call your bullshit artists.

For starters your images of so called apple junk appear to be faked.

I want you to prove to me that the photos of the children allegedly holding mac keyboards aren't fake. I want you to state catergorically that these images weren't "set-up' ?

I also know your deliberately distorting the truth with the pictures of e junk piled up behind other children. You seriously going to tell me that is Apple junk..?

How utterly dishonest of you.

But why should I be surprised, Greenpeace has a history of bullshitting.

I believe in Green, but your not even considering that Apple products tend to be used up to three times longer (in terms of actual years use) without needing to be dumped or replaced.

Your also utterly ignoring the statistical reality that Windows machines make up 95% of the world.

Lenovo produces nothing but MS Windows machines, and Lenovo and their hundreds of localised backyard tenders and subsidiaries, are by far the greatest producers of polluting e~shit in China .... despite their claims and your official patting their nice socialist backs.

Nor are you considering the cost to the world in terms of PC users all being FORCED to replace their home and company computers, just so they can run the new Vista OS...which doesn't run on over 75% of current and older PCs. Talk about a eminent landslide of pollution coming your way. Nothing to say about that incredibly polluting move by MS. ?

That's why I think you guys are all bullshit artists.

Steve Jobs is right...your deliberately manipulating public opinion while protecting crap producers like MS, Lenovo, IBM, COMPAQ, Toshiba, Sony etc etc.

Get real...

Wanna save the world...Then get a MACs.

Anything less simply generates more junk quicker...

Aquafire.

So here is what I suggest...

Hit back at these lying bastards.

Fill in the form (link below) and trash their bullshit site.

While I don't think I would have gone so far as to make a cossack reply to greenpeace, it is true that the metrics they use to evaluate "green-ness" of electronics manufacturers is quite misguided. I don't remember all of the details, just that when I did look into it a year ago or so how I noted the insufficiency of their metrics. As I recall, nowhere in their evaluation do they factor in the actual mass of product.

If anyone actually listened to Greenpeace, I'd care more.

Macworld: Activist plan 'dramatic' greening of Apple Store SF at 6:00pm

Greenpeace discussion from January 8, 2007. There have been numerous other threads dealing with GP, Apple, and plastics in the last year or so.

IMHO, the "tools" at GP are using Apple as their tool for gaining MSM attention.

I've often wondered if Apple gets any credit for the reduction of cd's and jewel cases that are sold due to people buying music on iTunes.

As regards the anti-Apple campaign, seems like I am not the only one wanting to get give Greenpeace a swift kick.

http://www.stats.org/stories/2007/sm...le_apr6_07.htm

Perhaps Greenpeace might like to underline their claims with actual facts...

But I doubt it...

Its not their style.

Lying is more to their liking.

1) Apple has a free recycling program.
2) Many electronics have "harmful" substance. Every smoke detector contains radioactive materials, and every battery contains battery acid. I'm not saying this is right -- my point is, Apple is not criminal here when compared to other companies. Why is greenpeace picking on Apple in particular? Why not Dell? They have a larger impact as they sell more PCs. And these PCs break faster and get thrown away sooner.

Sigh. As an environmental professional, I can definitely say Greenpeace does not have the respect that groups like the Sierra Club, NRDC, and the Nature Conservancy have. They don't seem to pick their battles very carefully. Or execute them well. Apple is now taking iPods back and that's a great first step. They should work with them further in a more productive and professional manner. It seems that Greenpeace would only be content if everyone ate only organic granola. They're the Nader of the green movement, actually hurting their own cause. Especially since I'd assume most environmentalists are Mac users, or there is at least significant overlap.

I went to the site. I think it's a hilarious design actually. But they said short product life spans--uuuh what idiots. They probably used Macs to make the site--they should know better. And packaging--Apple must surely lead the pack here. Same with other areas of industrial design, such as less wires, flat screens, and the fact the they pioneered MP3 players, which produce less "stuff" than a huge pile of CDs, I'd assume. I don't know whether removeable media produces more entropy than digital files on hard-drive based players, or if it in the end is less environmentally friendly, but it seems it could be, since there's less "stuff." Again, they just always bungle their PR. They are increasingly less respected, from my experience.

Thanks Aquatic, your post was as interesting as it was informative.

As regards Greenpeace, it has increasingly become a haven for all sorts of lopsided political agendas and that is why so many of those that first started it (as a non political environmental movement in the 1970's) have since gone on to denounce it as being nothing more than a politically biased pressure group.

Ah... I am a turncoat par excellence... I used to do medical research and animal testing. Then I worked for Greenpeace. Now I am selling iPods and Macs.

But... Aquafire, essentially what you said, I posted somewhere else a few months ago. Targeting Mac users is misguided. Greenpeace has its place and purpose in the world, I believe. But this latest campaign is just really bizarre.

Like you said Aquafire, I heard ya, the amount of sh1t that the PC industry/ China/ manufacturing/ olympic construction e-waste i-waste a-waste b-waste etc. etc... It's all very confusing. \
