I caught the bug

I'm saving up for a mac-laptop post-leopard to replace my linux-desktop.
Saving means no buying cd's. I love cd's, but I'm not buying cd's
It means re-ripping the cd's I turned into .flacs over the years into itunes so I'll have my music on my soon-to-be-bought-post-leopard-mac.

I seriously, seriously want to buy stuff, loads of cd's primarily.
Yet I'm not buying, because I need that new laptop, I don't want linux on a laptop, and I definatly don't want a vista laptop.

Hence I'm feeling kinda sad. I'm frothing at the mouth waiting for cool, geeky new hardware to play with, and because I am saving I can't buy that cool new cd to soothe my pain.
Because if I would buy that cd, I'd buy that 30-cd 150-euro mozart box I've been wanting too, and I'll be hard-pressed to restrain me from shortening my amazon wishilist.
To top it off, I gave Itunes my creditcardnumber so I could create an account, so I could download album art automatically. And itunes makes spending the money I should be saving too damn clicky-clicky easy.

Then, when I have the laptop, it'll be iphone-time, because I keep asking for directions, forgetting my agenda, and could really use a just-works-smartphone.
The laptop will need a wireless router, because, well, then I won't have to get out of bed on sundays...

Apple equates to pain for me now.
I'm not sure if I should blaim apple for creating such cool products, or being a college student for being too poor to buy them all.

I need a flu shot. :/

You don't have to re-rip lossless audio tracks. Just encode them or you can use the same tracks in itunes:

Such is the world of Apple. Don't worry though, a lot of much cheaper 3rd party stuff works too so you don't have to blow all your money. I only get my computer from Apple, everything else is 3rd party: mouse, keyboard, screen, DVD burner, external HD, router.

I know I don't have to re-rip, but the itunes encoder seems much more bug-free than the previous gstreamer-based solution. I actually get gapless playback on my pink floyd albums on those new aac tracks.

And I know I don't _have_ to buy, but the genius of this business model is that every additional product makes the experience a little bit more smooth. I'll probably get a third-party router, but those aren't free either.
