OK. I dug one up and tried it.

The iPhone will CHARGE over FireWire, but iTunes cant see/communicate with the iPhone over FireWire. Hmmm...

Can I use an older FireWire iPod cable on my iPhone? I have a nice 6' 6pin FireWire to 30 pin iPod cable that will work great in my office. Any problems using it on my iPhone instead of the standard USB cable?

That's what I've heard before about Firewire and iPods not designed to use it.

Just another quirk, I have an old firewire ipod charger for my car, today I tried to charge my iPhone. After 2 hours there was no charge on the phone even though it showed it was chargeing, but when I turned my phone off in about an hour it was fully charged.

Just did a search for this as I ran into the same thing. Yup, it's true.

I do, however, charge my iPhone overnight with my old FireWire charger from my iPod Mini and it does charge it just fine...always a full charge when I wake up.
