The WSJ had a slideshow on bridge 'problems' over the years. As they say, these things are [statistically] bound to happen.

And this could have been much, much worse.

In our desire to impose form on the world we have lost the capacity to see the form that is there;
and in that lies not liberation but alienation, the cutting off from things as they really are. --...

That's why I used the word 'religious' in my post.

I'm most familiar with the world of Christian Relief work. But I'm quite aware that other faiths, including Judaism and Islam, do quite a bit towards helping the poor, oppressed and destitute in the world.

Uh..pretty sure he just mentioned them. Poverty spending has not cured the ills of society. In fact, poverty was decreasing much faster when we were spending exponentially less than we are today.
