External USB drive works on my G4 powerbook but not in my new iMac

I have a WD external USB drive that works fine on my G4 PowerBook but when I plug it in the new iMac it doesn't mount. It works fine under Parallels on the same machine.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks!

When you open Disk utility in /applications/utilities, does the drive show up in the left sidebar? If so and there is a partition under it, will it let you mount it if you select it?

No - it doesn't show up

Does it do this after a reboot too?

Yep. Opening up VMWare or Parallels is the only way I can access the drive or plug it in my G4 PB.

That's a weird problem but other people seem to have had issues like that:

I don't recommend following the steps in the first one as that involves installing a third party EFI shell but I just posted it to show people have had similar problems.

I would try to use the USB prober utility from the developer kit and try to get the drive to mount that way. I uploaded it for you to save you getting the developer kit - it should run without the full kit:

To download, you have to put in the number, hit submit and wait 30 seconds.
