iPhone tv out question

All,

I would like to watch an iTunes-purchased video that's currently on my iPhone (software 1.1.2) on my TV. I tried hooking up an old AV (yellow, red, white) cable that I had. The connections all seem to work except I only get sound, and no video on the TV. I read somewhere that only Apple-origin AV cables will work with the iPhone-to-TV combo. Is that true? Any other suggestions here? Anyone else got this feature to work? Thanks.

I bought the cable from apple and it works fine. It plugs into the dock connector. Not the headphone jack. The headphone jack of the iPhone doesn't have a video contact.
