Is An iPhone Unlocked After 2 Years?

When the initial 2 year AT&T contract ends (next year for 2007 buyers) does that make the iPhone legitimately unlocked so we can then switch to any GSM carrier and data plan? and still access all the Apple services for iPhone without limitation?

i would think the answer is "yes" but i've never seen a definite answer anyplace.

AT&T promised to provide unlocking codes after the contract is over.

Apple services require the carrier to have Apple servers in their premises --- T-Mobile USA doesn't have Apple servers in their system, so you are not going to get Apple services.

Once it's unlocked, you can go to any GSM carrier --- assuming that they are not going to screw you with data plans.

thanks much. if TMobile has any brains at all, they'll add Apple iPhone support in time for July 2009.
