Any ideas what the new features will be? My iPod Touch is already pretty freaking cool. Can't
imagine what they might add to it, except for copy and paste!

It would only be a con if they couldn't sell it at full price. As that isn't the case, it isn't a con.

There will always be plenty of people who don't know about Apple's upgrade situations, and those who simply need to buy a machine despite it.

I wasn't talking about users. I know they will buy blindly. The retailers will clean out Apple's stock and then get stuck with the remains when Apple rolls out new models in a couple weeks...

If the retailers will clean out Apple's stock, how will they be stuck with the remains? The remains of what? You know that by the last week or so, they will be out of stock themselves. That's what always happens. They're not stupid. They won't buy more than they can sell.

I think he's implying that apple is trying to unload stock by getting resellers to purchase "4 weeks worth" of stock, and then releasing updates in two weeks, well before that stock is gone from the reseller's shelves.

Which I've gotta say, I don't think is realistic. That would be an incredibly unethical thing for Apple to do to their resellers, and they'd probably get sued to boot.

Yes, that's at least part of what I also think he mean.

It is unrealistic. Apple simply doesn't do that. This stock will sell out before the new models arrive, as always.

Yeah...if the 3-4 weeks bulletin is true, it seems like it would be the best indicator yet of a concrete time frame for the refresh... 4-6 weeks from now, with the Macbooks potentially coming out a week or two before the iPod refresh.

This is unfortunate for me as I start law school in the middle of August, but I will make do with my Dell until the refresh at the beginning of September.

Sorry about the timing issues.

Some of my friends kids are starting college this fall (how fast that seems to happen. One year left for mine). They start in the middle of August. That makes this timing real tough.

There is so much hype in the US market about the apple systems, where they are severe drought for these systems. Most of the members ordered these apple phones which will give tough competition against the Mac and ipod music systems.

I use that 160 GB iPod Classic all the time for just about everything as a disc at university and it is incredibly useful and so easy to just dump things into from the desktop. Too bad there is no disk mode on the Touch or iPhone, but I can understand with the smaller HDs ,but with the Classic, having it all there really is convenient; just be sure you have another backup device,just in case

MacBooks and MacBook Pros have been at 5-7 days shipping at the online Apple Store for K-12 Education Institutions for the past two months. Generally whenever Apple's going to release a new model the shipping estimates creep up to 7-10 days or 1-2 weeks. The online Apple Store for K-12 Education Institutions is the best indicator of drying up supply.

Since I've been posting in it all along, yes.

I've been away, and since I came back, all I've been seeing is the threads about the iPhone. As I just attempted to buy three, it's been on my mind a lot.

Yeah, I realize what the theads about. But, there isn't supposed to be much in the way of shortage in the computer realm just yet, which is why I asked IF they mean the iPhone.

Well did you read the TITLE of the thread Macs and iPods, it was my understanding that Apple views the iPhone as separate to these, its obvious that there is and has been supply issues for the iPhone, but as thats not in the TITLE of the thread It wasn't part of my admittedly short enquiry.

I'd like to get a Mac Mini so I can play TV shows from network sites like fox.com and nbc.com onto my big screen tv. Why buy a Tivo when the networks offer their full shows online a week later, and with much shorter commercials than when they were on TV? I know AppleTV can play YouTube but I don't think it can connect to network tv's free web sites.
Then I see the Back-to-school special, and if you look at the MacBook that starts at $999 with the educational discount, and throw in the $300 off of an iPod too, you can get a much better machine than the Mac Mini for around the same price, and it's a laptop for when you leave the house.
I could understand waiting for the new releases in Sept. or Oct. if you are going to spend $2500 on a Macbook Pro. But I don't know if it's worth waiting on something like the $999 Macbook. What are the chances that the new Macbook is going to have even more than $300 worth of improvements? You might lose out by waiting past the sale.
I will probably wait until Sept 15th, the last day of the sale, to see if the new ones come out before then and apply to the sale, or if anything more is known about the improvements. Either way, you really can't go wrong with whatever you end up with when it comes to Apple these days compared to what PCs have turned into lately.
