Recommendations for Level 1 Raid device

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a simple Level 1 raid that can be utilized over a gigabit ethernet network. I'd like to accomplish all this for a small budget, say under $500 for sure.

It will be used to archive data. Two drive bays are all that's needed. One for on premises, one for off premises.

The catch is, once the drives are filled, down the road, I'd like to able to simply put them in a tower to access the data. So the data cannot be proprietary to the device.

I'm currently using a SansDigital MN2L but the data will only work on this device.

Your thoughts are welcome.
