The Gates of Mordor nor the Mines of Mauria could stop me from buying this.

Thanks for not doing the ugly blue banner at the top. Keep it classy.

You know the Double-dip is coming.

Next year they'll have the Extended Editions available with extra material and I'll have to buy both. Luckily for me I just bought the EE editions on DVD and avoided the Theatrical but for HD I may want both.

I like the version that had the car driving in the background.

These box sets, by the way, are awesome for hurricanes, blizzards, and things of the like.

Hmm... me too. I have the deluxe DVD trilogy, and I love it. I'm not too upset, as I don't have an HDTV yet. By this time next year I'll probably have one, and by then the extended trilogy will be released on BluRay with even more extras. Oh, and when is The Hobbit coming, anyway?

Of course you realize that's not an actual product shot, and the final product could very well look different...

Yes but they won't add that blue banner. Everyone's gonna know that these are the HD Blu-ray version and I'll be buying a Blu-ray player (finally) and getting with it if these come movies out this year.

Man...I may have to bite the bullet and finally go HD for this.

These are my absolute favorite movies. Ever.

I know ...I know.

Warners going to milk this. They're going to deliver probably during the Holiday seasonal rush and force me to buy this and a Blu-ray player.

Though by then a $200 BD player will probably have BD-Live and support streaming so it'll be all good.

murch, the BD set will probably cost more than whatever player you end up buying.

That's ok. LotR is the one title that will sway even an embittered and nostalgic HD DVD fan such as myself over to Blu-ray.

They should offer a discounted Blu-Ray player as a package with the HD box set. Certainly would drive a bunch of new adoption.

Would Sony want to promote a rival studio's picture?

Good point.

Although if it helped sell more PS3s...in this economy, who knows?

Yeah. Although, it seems like a problem for Sony. With their vast holdings, almost any way they turn they're competition with somebody, and often seemingly in competition with themselves.

Running a movie studio and a music label while you're trying to sell consumer stuff that plays movies and music seems particularly vexed.
