Quick, informal OS X poll... - Page 2

I use OS X almost all the time at home on my iBook. The only time I boot into OS 9 is for a few games that I play at LAN parties with my friends.

When I'm in a computer lab at school, I'm using OS 9 most of the time. I've only seen one school-operated OS X machine in the single semester I've been a student at the University of Minnesota.

D. Use OS 9 at home and work

(I'll boot 10.1.5 at work when I have some downtime) - quark, groupwise and netware suck in the first place (not quark) all need some time to get sorted out. Prelim test with the server slowed down the whole internal network, crashed other macs, etc. lol

7300/200 here at home

A... or nearly so. Every once in a while I still run something in Classic, usually for testing something. For instance, I ran into this web site...

<a href="http://eclipsephoenix.homestead.com" target="_blank"> Don't click here unless you want to hang your OS X browser! -- eclipsephoenix.homestead.com</a>

...that seems to hang every OS X browser I've tried it on, including, just now, Safari. Old Netscape 4.77, run under Classic, however, handles this site just fine.

B.

Home and freelance work OS X s full-time since 10.1.

In my current job they're still in 9. Probably won't switch to X until well after I'm gone.

OS X all the time.

Don't work; school computers are a mélange of iMac and eMac web terminals (running 9 and IE 5) and then business school's stuff is all IBM NetVistas with Celerons and W2K. eew.

Interesting. On three different Macs I've tried (not all with Safari) any OS X browser would lock up shortly after loading eclipsephoenix.homestead.com.

On my TiBook (which I'm using right now) I just locked up Mozilla 1.2.1, then tried again with the latest Safari (v51). For a moment, I thought the Safari was going to be okay... but then I spent a few moments scrolling up and down the page, and soon enough the Rainbox Vortex of Death descended once again.

Do you guys who've had this page work okay have JavaScript turned off? I'm thinking that perhaps the way this web page writes into itself via JavaScript might be part of the problem -- but that's just a guess.

Did those of you who got the page to work look it up and down for at least 30-45 seconds, or did you just see the page load and then close it very quickly?

A!!!

100% OS X work & play

I persuaded all at work to move to X just before Christmas (Pre-press Co.) and all is fine. Jag-wire made this possible, before Jag-wire OS X was SHITE for any commercial use.

B. Use OS X exclusively at home, OS 9 at work

This is soon to change. I work at a design firm that will be dumping Quark. We're migrating to InDesign/OSX in the first quarter this year.
OS X all the way--After Effects, Final Cut, Studio MX, Photoshop, Deck, etc. Still waiting for ProTools in X; Quark can slide. InDesign is IN.

What's X? I have a 700 iBook with just 128mb of ram, so X is unuseable. I'll stick with 9 for now, thanks. However, if I can fit $100 in my budget for a 512mb stick of ram, i might go to X full-time

I'm using option H, X @ work and OS9 @ home..

Home comp too crappy....
