help with contacts

I have a second generation 8G iPod touch

I placed all my contacts on the touch on the unit itself...I am worried if I loose them if the touch dies some day...

So the question: how do I place them somewhere else on itunes to save them in case the iPod dies or I get a new one someday?

I have not figured out how to access them in iTunes...

You might want to try and give as much information about your setup as you can when asking for help.

Are you on a Mac? If so, contacts syncs with your Address Book contacts, not anything in iTunes. On Windows, I'm pretty sure there's a way to sync with Outlook, but I'm not 100% sure what it is.
