  One great thing about the app store is that the developers can't sell their software anywhere else. That is convenient because you can get everything you want in one place.

  That’s simply not true. Developers are free to sell their phone app software products on Android.

  Congratulations on having the most-wrong post of the day, if not the year thus far. Mac Developers who sell on the App Store can also sell their software on their website, they can offer a boxed version for retail. Mac and iOS devs can create versions of it for other platforms, or offer subscriptions via their own websites without paying Apple to handle it for them. In addition, iOS developers can, if they want to, forego the App Store and sell software through unofficial channels, though the market for this has (wisely) dried up.
  
  While I agree that the App Store and Mac App Store are tremendously convenient one-stop shops, iOS developers are only slightly less free than Mac developers to sell where and how they want.Given the rash of security and privacy issues that have been found on the Android side mostly (but not exclusively) coming from non-official stores, the iOS App Store is turning out to have major consumer and platform advantages regarind security and privacy that the Android world flat-out can't offer.
