Did Time Machine overright the existing files on my WD External Hardrive?!

My sister used my 160GB Western Digital (WD) external hardrive that I normally use on my PC to drag and drop her music files from her macbook.

She clicked 'yes' when it asked if she'd like to use it as the back up for time machine.

Now I can't see my files! There was about 80GB worth.

I called Western Digital who said I should go into the Firstaid & Repair of the Macbook & disable time machine, but does anyone know if Time Machine would have initialized the disc when she plugged it in and said 'yes'?

Will I get my files back if I disable time machine? If not, what can I do - my life is in that harddrive.

Please please help.

It shouldn't have. I did the same thing with one of my drives where I have a ton of video files. it doesn't format the HD it just makes its own folder with all the backup information inside(and changes the icon). sounds like HD corruption or she did something else.

My experience with Time Machine is that it does the math of how much space it need to back up and how much space is available BEFORE it starts. If there's not enough space then it doesn't start the back up. I'm guessing your drive or files were effed before you gave it to you sister.
